Rumsfeld says he has no plans to step down

PENTAGON Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld says the calls for his resignation are prompted by "politics."

Rumsfeld told a Pentagon news conference he remains "hard at the job, working hard." He says he does not feel embattled, and gets up every day thinking about what can be done for U-S troops.

Rumsfeld says the calls for his ouster have been going on for more than five years. He says the president has asked him "not to get involved in politics, and that's politics."

Earlier this week, President Bush rejected calls for Rumsfeld's resignation.

Worth repeating ad nauseum.

8. OH, you should have heard the question that led up to this.
I heard it on AAR news. The reporter was asking Rumsfailed if he was thinking about quitting (I'm paraphrasing now)

"Mr. Rumsfailed, we hear that the war in Iraq is going badly, and the pressure is on for you to quit"
*Rumsfailed getting angry in the background*
Reporter continues needling Rumsfailed
"Yes, we hear that they say you have no influence any more, like an Old Uncle who's left out of the important stuff"

Now Rumsfailed reacts. He doesn't answer the question, instead goes after the reporter, "See, he LOVES this kind of thing".

I TELL YOU it was juicy. I loved every delicious second of that news report.
