$75m bounty on Colombian rebels in US war on drugs
By Rupert Cornwell in Washington and Daniel Howden
Published: 24 March 2006

The United States has launched a fresh offensive in its Latin American war on drugs by putting a $75m (£43m) bounty on the heads of 50 alleged leaders of the Colombian rebel group they accuse of running half of the world's cocaine trade.

Announcing the move against a group whom Washington calls "narco-terrorists", the US attorney general, Alberto Gonzales, said it was "the largest drug trafficking indictment in US history".

5. Wow, this is some really impressive whining.
75m is nothing. NOTHING. It's not even pocket change in Iraq. It's lint.

If, and I highly doubt this but if, the US could take care of the FARC for 75m, it would be the most impressive bargain in the War on Drugs since its inception.
