Mortar round accidentally kills civilian

Associated Press

BAGHDAD, Iraq — A mortar round fired by U.S. soldiers in northwest Iraq accidentally killed a civilian, the military said Friday.

Soldiers were firing at a suspected insurgent location Wednesday but fell short of the target, hitting the man instead, a U.S. statement said. The incident happened near a village south of Sinjar, on the road from Mosul to the border with Syria about 225 miles northwest of Baghdad.

9. I'm shocked.
Mortars, along with bullets, are as accurate as bombs dropped from the sky.
