‘Peaceful Coexistence Need of Hour’ - Crown Prince Sultan
TOKYO, 8 April 2006 — Crown Prince Sultan yesterday called for the peaceful coexistence of civilizations, saying humanity is badly in need of it to stop wars and occupation of others’ land by force and prevent the spread of hate and enmity. Speaking at Tokyo’s prestigious Waseda University after receiving an honorary doctorate in law, Sultan also urged more cooperation in various areas of scientific research that will be of benefit to all humanity.

“We call upon the world community to intensify efforts in supporting peaceful and constructive coexistence among nations and the respect of the human being, as well as rejecting all forms of discrimination, violence, extremism and aggression,” he said.

The university said it was conferring on the Saudi crown prince the honorary doctorate in appreciation of his contributions in the areas of science, technology, humanitarian service, health, education and environment.

In his keynote address, Prince Sultan highlighted Saudi Arabia’s endeavors to promote education.

"Rejecting all forms of discrimination, violence, extremism and aggression,” he said.

Does that mean the Saudis are going to give women equal rights? Remind me not to hold my breath.

1. That is one cool name
Crown Prince Sultan.

That's like three titles in one.

2. Yeah.... that's about as credible as when bush said:

"If we don't stop extending our troops all around the world in nation-building missions, then we're going to have a serious problem coming down the road." --gw bush, Oct. 3, 2000

Talk is cheap.

3. And yet there's the "Ask Uncle Islam" column
that I read this morning.

&category=Islam

It's precisely the teaching that yielded the Golden Mosque bombing and the destruction of other shrines--as well as the defiling of graves. And unpins much of the reasoning that they consider Christians to have wilfully corrupted the revelation they were given, making their already inferior revelation into something akin to blasphemy: something the Sa'udi clerics are only shy about saying when they're afraid Westerners will notice and take it "wrong". That is, correctly.

4. Respect for the human being? As in, how women in the ME are treated?
