Powell Wishes Nelson Mandela Happy 85th Birthday
U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE

SECRETARY POWELL: I am very pleased to join the entire world in extending best wishes to Nelson Mandela on his 85th birthday. He is not only a great hero to the whole world, but above all I consider him a personal friend. I have benefited from his wisdom, guidance and counsel over the years. He has been a source of inspiration in my career. And my dear friend, I join so many other people in the world in hoping that he continues in good health and he will continue to provide inspiration to those who are in need, those who still see poverty in their daily lives, and those who hope for a better future. Keep inspiring us, my friend. ---

7. Powell was in Africa just last week
Why didn't he visit Mandela in person to give him his good wishes? Or couldn't he pull himself away from Massa's side?
