35. The DoD itself has just issued a disclaimer...link inside...
DoD Statement on News Reports of al-Qaida and Iraq Connections
<http://www.dod.mil/releases/2003/nr20031115-0642.html>

Excerpt:

"The items listed in the classified annex were either raw reports or products of the CIA, the NSA, or, in one case, the DIA. The provision of the classified annex to the Intelligence Committee was cleared by other agencies and done with the permission of the Intelligence Community. The selection of the documents was made by DOD to respond to the Committee’s question. The classified annex was not an analysis of the substantive issue of the relationship between Iraq and al Qaida, and it drew no conclusions.

2. What I saw earlier was simply..
taking the absolutely worst possibility of every single piece of evidence gathered over the last 12 years and believing it uncritically, using it to weave a tale worthy of Homer. Simpson.

has said repeatedly there were no links.

Even Bush admitted it.

But with 2 choppers and a train down today...wouldn't you try and distract your audience?

6. A whole lot of nothing. I heard Rita Cosby breathlessly trying to
get Colonel David Hunt to give her the "right" answers. This "memo" comes from Douglas (PNAC) Feith in the Defense Office of Special Plans. We've seen how "special" their plans are.

It's the same old stuff; Mohammad Atta in Prague (refuted by our own records), "terrorist" training camp in the north (which the US and the Kurds had control over), Saddam gave money to terrorists (the Palestinians AGAIN), secret meetings (info from Chalabi's sources who also gave us WMD's! WMD's!).

Colonel Hunt could barely keep himself from laughing at this "secret memo."

9. Actually it is a whole lot of something
These reports on Fox, Newsmax, the Washington Times and other extreme right media outlets have successfully convinced a significant number of Americans that these lies are true. They only pay attention to the headline.

And that is all that matters.

22. I think you're selling a lot of Americans short...
...Even the most gullible individual will think twice about this latest attempt to establish a link after getting absolutely NO proof of ANY link whatsoever for the last THREE years!

And that's what REALLY matters.

By the way, if you think that "...a significant number of Americans..." have really been convinced "...that these lies are true...", I've got some GREAT farmland you can buy in the Gulf of Mexico.

7. BULLLLLL.CRAP!!!!
The Memo was "leaked" to the WEEKLY STANDARD" - helloooooooo, - that's the paper of the PNAC folks. The editor is Bill Kristol, FOUNDER of PNAC -and the source of this ridiculous memo is some nebulous high authority. It's another attempt to justify the deaths and horror in Iraq. Anyone who accepts any NEWS from FOX as factual - has to undestand that their sources are suspect. Be wary of anything from the Weekly Standard.

For the clueless - check the editorial from TvNewsLies on the editorial page, or just go here and see the PNAC thugs who are running the show.

17. The "nebulous high authority" is Douglas Feith (PNAC)
Edited on Sat Nov-15-03 10:16 PM by AntiCoup2k
So in other words, you have a PNAC memo, linked to a PNAC magazine and reported by the PNAC network.

BTW, Kristol is "founder" and "chairman" of PNAC like Junior is "pResident". Just a front man for Perle, Wolfoshitz, etc.

10. My ass...
The "link" between Saddam and Al-Qaeda has beeen debunked long before now. I'll believe this when I see it reported by a credible media outlet, with documented and incontrovertible evidence...as it is, a report like this coming from Fox has as much credibility as a report from Radio Berlin about the international Jewish banking conspiracy circa 1938.

12. Always listen for the disclaimer
Edited on Sat Nov-15-03 09:34 PM by pbl
Which usually comes way at the end or in real fine print. For this story, which I heard earlier, the disclaimer was that this information was not conclusive proof of ties between Saddam and Osama. Well, why report it? Who knows, I guess it's just another WMD (weapon of mass distraction).

19. Calm down kids... Here's how it works
Karl sends a memo to Newsmax (.."Well, it's IN the paper"..)

some clown at Newsmax, spins a story around Karl's ideas, prints it up..

same clown "alerts" Faux & Drudge & Hannity &Boortz & all the others to .."be sure and read the powerhouse dtory on the front page"..

They run with it as .."BREAKING NEWS"..

Everyone else ignores it , since it's ..C R A P ...and then those who DO run it rattle on and on about how THEY have an EXCLUSIVE...

They can run with crap like this for days until FINALLY, some other news outlets start reporting on how ridiculous this story is... but that only convinces the dittoheads and Fauxfreaks that the "information" is being spun, because they have known about it for DAYS...

rinse & repeat

21. One major problem for this "story"...

Why would anyone believe anything these people have to say now? They've already proven themselves as serial liars with a dubious agenda, and unfortunately they're just not very good at any of it.

The worst part about being a liar is no one believes you when you actually tell the truth.

No. 851-03
IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 15, 2003

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DoD Statement on News Reports of al-Qaida and Iraq Connections

News reports that the Defense Department recently confirmed new information with respect to contacts between al-Qaida and Iraq in a letter to the Senate Intelligence Committee are inaccurate.

A letter was sent to the Senate Intelligence Committee on October 27, 2003 from Douglas J. Feith, Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, in response to follow-up questions from his July 10 testimony. One of the questions posed by the committee asked the Department to provide the reports from the Intelligence Community to which he referred in his testimony before the Committee. These reports dealt with the relationship between Iraq and al-Qaida.

The letter to the committee included a classified annex containing a list and description of the requested reports, so that the Committee could obtain the reports from the relevant members of the Intelligence Community.

The items listed in the classified annex were either raw reports or products of the CIA, the NSA, or, in one case, the DIA.

Individuals who leak or purport to leak classified information are doing serious harm to national security; such activity is deplorable and may be illegal.

Well, the DOD is already debunking this one:

http://www.dod.mil/releases/2003/nr20031115-0642.html

The DOD and the PNAC must just be playing good cop/bad cop just to get the concept of a confirmed link between OBL and SH planted in the minds of as many people as possible...

the Weekly Standard is telling their right wing lemmings that the case is closed:

and of course that objective journalist Stephen Hayes adds:

...there can no longer be any serious argument about whether Saddam Hussein's Iraq worked with Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda to plot against Americans.

37. Case closed
sure, yep, I believe it now. Saddam Hussein, smart enough to stay alive all these years, and possibly still alive now, worked closely and helped trememdously a man who wanted him dead.

Usually, someone wanting you dead puts a real hamper on the two of you having a good working relationship. Sure, you may have similiar goals, but that doesn't escape the fact that the other guy wants you dead.

The man who had killed anyone who possibly showed any interest in maybe approaching his power helped out a man who wanted him dead.

Sorry, Weekly Standard, but this DUer is smarter than the average dittohead.

(2) Democrat Blanco wins Governor of LA
(3) Doctor Dean rescues a supporter who passed out

She didn't have the nerve to admit the Saddam/Osama story was all was full of bu**sh**.
