Maryland GOP Kicks Out Old Latino Group
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Maryland Hispanic Republican Caucus lost its affiliation with the state's Republican Party on Saturday, after the caucus chairman angered party officials by publicly criticizing Gov. Robert Ehrlich for not appointing Hispanics to high-level jobs.

Delegates to the GOP's fall convention voted overwhelmingly to recognize a rival organization, Hispanic Republicans of Maryland, as the state party's official affiliate, ending the relationship with the caucus.

Jorge Ribas, chairman of the ousted group, said Maryland Republicans run the risk of alienating Latino voters with their treatment of his caucus and Ehrlich's failure so far to appoint Hispanics to high-level positions in the administration.

He said there are no Hispanics or Asians at the highest levels of the administration. "We are still sitting at the back of the bus instead of at the table."

2. I am going to use a line that was said by the father of ex-GOP
congressman J C Watts and put it in context of this article....

"A Hispanic who votes for the repubs is like a chicken voting for Col. Sanders".

All minority repukes need to have their heads examined for even being a member of the party. They will always be slapped down by the repukes.

6. How is the RNC supposed to keep up the title of
Racist Natl. Comm. if they let those ethnics get involved in the process at any level? The idea that he even asked for a token position in a state govenrment shows how uneducated they are and emphasises the point that they can not be appointed to any position in the white mans world.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In all seriousness, this is pretty sad that they cut out a group because they wanted to be at the table, not in the back of the bus.

7. Msryland Republicans
I am a Maryland resident and voter. The Maryland GOP makes cosmetic overtures to Hispanics and other minorities, but really doesn't do anything to help them. Maryland has an African-American Lt. Gov. who was on the GOP ballot in order to make inroads with the African-American voters. Since he has been Lt. Gov. for 10 months, Steele has not accomplished anything nor has he been asigned any meaningful duties. It is the same story with Hispanic voters. The Hispanic caucus was correct in that Ehrlich has not appointed any Hispanics to meaningful positions. Instead, he has appointed cronies based on politics rather than merit. had merit instead of politics been the selection crteria, the Hispanics would have been very well represented in various state positions.
Ehrlich is a person of little substance and character. The negative effects of his governorship will be felt by Marylanders for years to come.
