Lawmaker upset by silence on another Dubai deal
http://go.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=topNews&storyID=11823328&src=rss/topNews

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. lawmaker on Tuesday fumed that the Bush administration refused to divulge anything about a security review it is conducting of a Dubai-owned company that is planning to take over several plants in the U.S. that make equipment for defense contractors.

The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), an inter-agency panel led by the Treasury Department, is reviewing the $1.24 billion takeover of Doncasters, a British engineering group with U.S. holdings, by state-owned Dubai International Capital.

Barrow said the Treasury Department's reluctance to discuss the latest proposal with him suggested it had learned little from the congressional outcry over a now-abandoned deal that would have allowed another Dubai company to take over some U.S. port operations.

"If I can't find out from my own government what is going on, it ain't congressional oversight," Barrow said in a telephone interview with Reuters.

"We (lawmakers) can't find out things ... We have no reason to believe they (the administration) are doing anything other than sleepwalking through the review process," he said.

1. Speaking of Dubai, heard anything on the port deal recently?
I think it is still on.

Someone is operating those ports.

And this Doncasters issue smells awful.
It is going through the same blind review process as did DPW.

James A Baker,III, and Vin Weber were the point men for DPW.

Those guys do not play to do anything but win.

And Baker absolutely owns * and his god-awful family.

21. The Dubai "ownership" is a front for the Bush crime family....
It's a way for them to raid the Treasury with no one being able to see what they are doing.

32. Not to question the legitamcy of your claim
but if you have some support info for that I would love to read. I suspect that the Bush family has to have a middle-eastern front company to conduct some kinds of business and any details on this would be brain fodder for sure.

Post out some links.

26. THE APATHETIC AMERICAN!
THE APATHETIC AMERICAN!

The Bush Administrations action in almost everything they undertake is headed in the wrong direction. We have been shown the failures in Iraq, in Afghanistan we have seen an escalation of violence and the return of the Taliban, the Domestic Spying Program extends to other than terrorist surveillance, abuse of power by the Executive branch is the rule rather then the exception, the Libby trial reveals more cover-ups and lies despite the convenient stonewalling of the Libby trial until AFTER the elections as the media and the Republican Guard act as a wall of protection for Bush blunders! The middle class of America works harder for fewer benefits, while Bush offers most financial aid to the rich. It is time Americans recognized the fact the Bush Administration will be the means for our own destruction, if we fail in our responsibility to speak out.

The illegal and immigrants march in every city in the United States for Immigration laws, the French march against labor laws and other European countries have demonstrated for rights and freedom, while in vital issues such as the unjustified Iraq War, and as a replay of Iraq against Iran seems to be in the making, most Americans, who want the blessings of freedom and Democracy will not get out in the streets to support it! Their silence is appalling!

HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU HEARD THOSE WHO CARE CRY OUT; WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE? The deafening silence from American and some Congressional members betrays our trust, and diminishes our confidence and lets the Bush Administration and the ruling Republicans get away with their misuse of the power we entrusted to them.

A German theologian who had suffered imprisonment during World War II named Martin Impeller wrote: “In Germany they came first for the Communists, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me and by that time no one was left to speak up!”

To those who are a part of the silent majority, who have little courage for confrontation and are too self-interested to challenge this Administration, what are you waiting for??? As terrorism increases, civil liberties are taken away, oversight becomes a thing of the past, election fraud continues, and the NeoCons advance their empire building plan, will you wait until your children or grandchildren are called on to sacrifice their freedom and their lives???

19. Remember... "Who's your daddy?"
Edited on Wed Apr-12-06 08:44 AM by Julius Civitatus
When having to choose between serving the American public, and serving their wealthy, oil-rich Arab partners, the Bush family will ALWAYS benefit their business partners. They've always known which side their toast is buttered.

As Michael Moore said in Fahrenheit 9/11:

Okay, let's say one group of people, like the American people pay you $400,000 a year to be president of the United States.

But then another group of people (Poppy's Saudi friends) invest in you, your friends and their related businesses, $ 1.4 billion over a number of years.

Who are you gonna like? Who's your daddy?

This is nothing but another example of how the Bush family operates.

20. Another Dubai company. Y did he out Valerie Plame...
The Doncasters deal has strong parallels to the ports saga. Both deals involve
state-owned Dubai companies purchasing British companies with U.S. assets.
In the ports case, Dubai Ports World bought a British company that operated
U.S. port terminals.
....
Barrow named similar concerns raised over the ports purchase -- that two of
the September 11 hijackers came from the United Arab Emirates, of which
Dubai is part, and al Qaeda funding passed through UAE banks.

24. I think it is a fine idea to rely on foreigners for self defense.
Edited on Wed Apr-12-06 10:41 AM by NYC
Who cares more about our welfare than people in other countries? Never could there be a situation where they would put their own self interest before ours. Never will they turn against us, sell us out, or have something more pressing to do for their own country.

How is it we can't find American companies to totally own these factories, and American workers to fill the jobs? I guess it doesn't matter since American companies don't care about America, either. They have only their own profits in mind, not the welfare of the country.

Edit: What's to stop Dubai from selling their interest to yet another foreign country?

Seriously, what is the tipping point going to be for the ruling majority party of this country to step up and REIGN THIS TREASONIST ADMINISTRATION IN?

If anything they need to do their duty just to save their own political skins, although I'd prefer to think they would do it for the sake of the country.

28. Will it ever end?? No, not unless someone arrests the Bush Regime now!!!
keep showing your outrage all over the internets and maybe SOMEONE WILL ARREST THIS TRAITOR.

Oh, I forgot! THEY ALREADY PASSED LEGISLATION TO TAKE THE INTERNET FROM US AND NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT THIS BILL:

"Read this carefully:

This blog reports many “media freedom” issues. I think this one is a very big deal. The GOP just voted to allow major restrictions to be placed on all internet traffic in the U.S. What you need to understand it that this is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from anything that has happened before. What the GOP is permitting is “traffic charges” which would be in addition to the charges, if any, imposed by the internet site. You would be charged just for using the internet, just like your phone company charges you for using your telephone. For example, there could be a traffic charge of one dollar put on downloading music FROM ANYWHERE. In effect, you would be charged just to get to iTunes. Then iTunes would charge you on top of the traffic charge for their music.

How can they do this? Cisco Systems has developed internet routers that actually READ THE TRAFFIC THAT IS GOING BY. In addition to the multiple personal liberties problems that exist with this, it allows your internet company (Comcast Cable, Adelphia, SBC, etc.) to know what type of thing you are using the internet for (it reads the “packets” in your transmission) and to charge you for it.

Once this Pandora’s Box of “pay per use” or “pay per type of use” internet is opened, everything can change. Democratic Representative Markey said: “this will fundamentally change the internet” for the worse. The GOP caved in to the big media company and telecom lobbyists and passed this horrible bill:GOP Votes To Allow Pay Per Use Internet

The Telecom Company Lobbyists have long pressured the GOP to make the internet just like the old “Bell Telephone System.” What the Telecoms feared is the multiple free things that the public could do over the internet. They especially feared the free Internet Telephone services like Vonage and Skype. The Telecoms dreamed of the day when they could charge you for using the internet (not just a monthly charge for the hookup, a pay per type of traffic charge or pay per use charge).

Well, thanks to the GOP and their K Street Lobbyist friends, that day will soon arrive.

All of you should be FURIOUS about this."

29. Might want to check out this link to an '04 article about Dubai and
Iran and Halliburton. Here's a quote from the article:

"Halliburton is far from the only brand that shows up in Tehran...many other U.S. companies keep Dubai offices and are favorites these days among Iranian traders in Dubai. Reason? Strong demand for 'anything high tech for military or oil services,' says Bolurfrushan of the Iranian Business Council." -snip from the tinfoil commies at Forbes.

34. It'll be a hostile takeover
Actually, it won't even be hostile, and for all we know the Chinese are giving the preznit the bad news now.

Did you happen to see the PBS show "The Tank Man"? Not only are we competing against Chinese labor, but we're competing against what is essentially slave labor. They showed a showcase factory - the one they'd let them film - where young women live in dorms and work 13 hours a day, 7 days a week for $140 a month. That works out to 91 hours/week, at only 4 weeks per month that's 38 cents per hour. That's the good job. Some workers don't even get paid. And of course, health safety, environmental safely, health care, retirement, etc., are pipe dreams.

But the only problem, according to the ostrich capitalists in this country, is that "you aren't competitive." It's really going to be hard to make the mortgage or pay the rent when we finally are. Oh, but that's right, they don't care about peasants, whether they're Chinese or American.
