Report: Women Of Color Get Smaller Tax Breaks

<As taxpayers across the country scramble to file their returns before the April 17 deadline, experts say many women do not realize they are the tax system's "biggest losers."

A new report released by the National Council for Research on Women states that women -- especially black, Hispanic and Native American women -- receive a markedly smaller share of tax breaks.

"When we look at things through the gender lens, we see how our tax system is failing," said Linda Basch, the council's president. "Women are the shock absorbers. They pick up the slack when our tax system fails."

Sandra Morgen, co-author of the council's study, said women are still disproportionately less wealthy than men, particularly women of color, who are twice as likely than white women to be poor. In 2004, black women in Chicago working full-time only earned about 83 percent of what their white counterparts earned.

According to the report, women often have an income derived mostly from wages rather than from a combination of wages, dividends and the sale of assets. As a result, women have benefited far less from a tax system that taxes wages more heavily than wealth.>

America has two groups, the ruling class and the working class.

imagine if the rich and their corporations were to pay their fair share of tax! free healthcare for everyone, free tertiary education. im not sure if the benefits are worth depriving some number shuffler in the city his third ferrari though, so we will have to do without.

You could double the taz on the rich and they'd still be fucking rich! It wouldn't hurt their lifestyle AT ALL and so many people could be helped.

hurt their retirement income..and if they never marry, they have only their own meagre SS to live on.. If they are married, and widowed, they could choose to continue to collect their husband's SS and forego their own. (or have they changed that too?)

Lots of 50-somethings end up having to quit work to take care of an elderly parent or grandchildren..

And that is the tip of the iceberg

that cannot happen in the UK. The system cannot discriminate in that way and their would be a public outcry if it was suspected of being so. Income tax,dividends and capital gains tax are grouped. The only benefit the wealthy have is maybe a better knowledge of tax avoidance as (opposed to evasion which is illegal) and the use of pension funds to further avoid or delay tax.

As our Inland Revenue (tax) offices seem by and large to be staffed by ladies anyway ,some of whom may also be non whites or whichever expression you chose to use politely, discrimination for any reason would not bode well.
