Bush Statement on Iraq WMD Later Debunked (WH response to report)

Bush Statement on Iraq WMD Later Debunked

WASHINGTON - President Bush ‘s claim three years ago that weapons of mass destruction were found in Iraq was based on U.S. intelligence that was later proved false, the White House acknowledged on Wednesday.

...

"The lead suggested that what the president was saying was based on something that had been debunked, and that is not true," McClellan said. "In fact, the president was saying something that was based on what the intelligence community — through the CIA and DIA — were saying."

"It‘s not something that, they will tell you, turns on a dime," McClellan said.

...

Intelligence officials and the White House have repeatedly denied claims that intelligence was exaggerated or manipulated in the months before the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003. The Iraq Survey Group concluded in 2004 that there was no evidence that Iraq produced weapons of mass destruction after 1991. It said Saddam Hussein ‘s ability to develop such weapons had diminished — not grown — during a dozen years of sanctions before last year‘s U.S.-led invasion.

1. Another layer of BULLSHIT.
The entire point of the article in question was that Bush knew it was wrong when he said it. Not afterwards. BEFORE. They haven't "acknowledged" shit.

17. I hope this doesn't give him cause to blow something up!
I personally remember Bu$h making this statement, remember back and you to will remember as well. It was a quiet evening the war was going well for Bu$h, i believe he was in the Rose Garden and wearing a blue suit. He had a gleam in his eye, and of course a smirk on his lips......................................em

2. "Who ya gonna trust, us or them?"
This tactic used to work for BushCo only because people weren't hurting and wanted to believe. That's changed now; Bush** has been caught in one too many lies. The evidence keeps mounting that those who were speaking out all along were telling the truth, and America is finally listening.

4. So let's see....
In 2003 the Pentagon does the study and arrives at one conclusion, but the CIA and the DIA arrive at another, and the President chooses to definitively recite the conclusion that was wrong.

I feel safer.

7. THIS is the kind of thing that undermines troops' morale
Not protesting the war and the way its been handled. In a way, you could say that Bush undermined the troops' morale from the very get-go.

10. OK. I want to hear from all the "Clinton lied"
people about how Bush, knowing that his very own "secret fact finding mission" told him PRIOR to his televised speech that there were NO weapons of mass destruction, could then say that there WERE WMDs. He was lying. How much clearer does it need to be?
It's unfathomable to me that Bush-lovers will close their eyes when the facts are staring them in the face.
The Bushies cooked the intelligence.
Bush "wants the American people to know the truth."
That is absolutely not true.

12. White House hotly denies report on Iraq WMD
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060412/pl_nm/iraq_usa_labs_dc

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House on Wednesday angrily denied a newspaper report that suggested
President George W. Bush in 2003 declared the existence of biological weapons laboratories in
Iraq while knowing it was not true.

On May 29, 2003, Bush hailed the capture of two trailers in Iraq as mobile biological laboratories and declared, "We have found the weapons of mass destruction."

The report in The Washington Post said a
Pentagon-sponsored fact-finding mission had already concluded that the trailers had nothing to do with biological weapons. The newspaper cited government officials and weapons experts who participated in the secret mission or had direct knowledge of it.

The Post said the group's unanimous findings had been sent to the Pentagon in a field report, two days before the president's statement.

16. Amazing how everything that turned out to be TRUE about Iraq
...including the dissenting opinions, somehow failed to make its way into BushCo's evidence to Congress and the UN Security Council.

What're the odds on that, Spock?

23. Ihave to admit (&offer praise) about how accurate the anti-war crowd was
Not that I really doubted everything that I had read and research (hey there's an idea) but I am amazed at how horrible an idea-by itself- this war. This of course is supplemented in that we ASSUMED in our criticism basic givens of going to war-properly equipped, properly staffed, and properly planned. None of which turned out to be true. Amazing.

It really was that bad of an idea

Under manned
Under equipped
Under trained
Under planned
and over funded.

That is the mission assessment on the war.

19. two days
Well, ya' know, 2 days, that's not enough time for important swill to bubble up into Bush's head, our multi-trillion, multi-year investment in our security apparatus can't be expected to get word to Bush on the facts that would support his manufactured casus belli, no, that's asking too much. Just as this same multi-trillion investment could not be expected to have prevented 9-11.

(then what the f*ck are we spending our money on?! :banghead: )

22. Used to be, one would lie and the other would swear to it
and that worked just fine. Now Snotty not only has to swear to it, he has to do a fancy tap dance with a mouth full of double talk.

Poor Snotty...the job gets harder each and every day. :)

25. When Bush* said,
"We have found the weapons of mass destruction."

When he made that statement, did someone actually TELL him that the found trailers actually HAD weapons in them, or was he just guessing?

All this dancing around is stupid.

The number of days that had passed between the "find" and bush's* statement is irrelevant.

And as for "faulty intelligence"; how is it that someone can look inside a couple trailers, see NO weapons, and get word back to Bush* that there ARE weapons in the trailers?

Is anyone believing this crap anymore?
