Democrat Blanco Wins La. Governor's Race

NEW ORLEANS - Democratic Lt. Gov. Kathleen Blanco became the first woman ever elected governor of Louisiana on Saturday, defeating a conservative Indian-American and scoring a rare gain for Democrats in an election season that has seen a string of Republican victories.

"Blanco's campaign aides said her edge came from strong turnout, particularly in New Orleans. Oliver Thomas, president of the New Orleans City Council, said they used phone banks and had workers standing on corners, "pulling people out of their cars to get them to vote."

I honestly believe this kind of forceful encouragement will give Dems the election in 04.....did anyone see Drew Barrymore and Norman Lear on TV today talking about getting people registered to vote?

Annoying as the California thing may seem right now, payback isn't far down the road, and I predict this will be a bitch for the republicans. This is why McClintock didn't drop out of the race: he would rather have a weak Democrat (Bustamante) replace Davis than a deeply flawed republican who will hilariously undermine every value the GOP ostensibly supports. The show is not over yet. This is going to become a particularly amusing circus.
