Paleontologists Find Species With Links to 'Lucy Skeleton'* evolution
By JOHN NOBLE WILFORD
Published: April 12, 2006

In following the fossil tracks of human evolution, scientists have for years searched for links between Australopithecus, the kin of the famous "Lucy" skeleton, and even earlier possible ancestors. Now, they think they have found some connections in Ethiopia.

An international team of paleontologists is reporting the discovery of transitional species superimposed in sediments in the neighborhood of a single site. The findings are to appear Thursday in the journal Nature.

Tim D. White, a paleontologist at the University of California, Berkeley, who was a leader of the team, and his colleagues said the 4.1-million-year-old fossils were anatomically intermediate between the earlier species Ardipithecus ramidus and the later species Australopithecus afarensis, the Lucy family. The newfound bones and teeth are the earliest remains of the most primitive Australopithecus, known as anamensis.

"This new discovery closes the gap between the fully blown australopithecines and earlier forms we call Ardipithecus," Dr. White said in a statement. "We now know where Australopithecus came from before four million years ago.">>>>>snip

3. Exactly!
HeeHee. I get a kick out of watching the 'Creation Science' program on the AngelOne channel (or whatever) as I'm putting my kid to sleep. She likes me to sit beside the bed sometimes as she goes to sleep, and believe me, this puts her to sleep. I like to take down the 'arguments,' and then go to my engineer hubby (also has a law degree), and see what he says. He just laughs.

Where you are making your mistake: our Creation Science friends have said that whole Carbon-14 test is just bunk. They never quite mention why it is bunk.

7. Isn't it Amazing the Tricks on Scientists God can play...
of making evolution seem so plausible when we all know this all occurred in the last 5000 years. At least all right thinking people.

11. What's More Amazing is How Wrong the Arrogant Self-Proclaimed...
"right" thinking people are. But then again, it should come at no surprise, for look at the backward greedy fascist they elected. Maybe they need fairytales to fill that space in their empty heads or just do not have the capacity to conceptualize something such as evolution. Kinda makes me think, these self-proclaimed "reicht-thinking" people just haven't evolved and are too scared to change their medieval-myopic-egocentric way of living or thinking.

Also, anyone needing to refute science to prove their faith have no faith at all.

9. Someone explain to me why this story is a big deal?
It will not convince anybody of the validity of Evolution. All this find did was split one gap in to two gaps.

The Creationist Bible Beaters will still live in theor haze of a 6,000 year-old Earth.

15. "It will not convince" anybody "of the validity of Evolution"
Edited on Wed Apr-12-06 10:36 PM by IChing
So you put the totality of your reality in a finite of an absolute?

It will not convince "anybody"
which means in the english language
that anyone is everyone?"

Never mind "anyone": excluded from that statement that believes otherwise
is not counted in your exclusionary logic.

edited for double quote marks

17. It's important because
With this news we are welcoming another link to the human chain. The picture of man walking forward first as a Neanderthal then morphing into Erectus needs to be updated.

19. The science was not done to convince
fundamentalists. It was done to further knowledge. Brains not open to knowledge will not accept it, of course.

seems they have difficulty walking upright and even more difficulty speaking in more than grunts. Also check out their sloping foreheads.
