"No, no," he told reporters traveling with him on a visit to Okinawa when asked if plans announced by Iraq's Governing Council for a transitional government would have any bearing on the continued presence of U.S. forces in the troubled country.

Rumsfeld talked with U.S. troops stationed on the Japanese island and met Okinawa's governor who presented the defense secretary with a list of grievances about the effect of the American military presence on the local population.

Rumsfeld arrived in Seoul on Sunday night for talks with South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun and Defense Minister Cho Young-kil on Monday. He will visit U.S. troops on Tuesday before returning to Washington at the end of his first trip to Japan and South Korea (news - web sites) since the Bush administration took office.

In Baghdad on Saturday, Jalal Talabani, current president of the U.S.-appointed Governing Council, announced that a sovereign Iraqi government would take over power from occupation authorities by the end of June 2004.

2. He's right---when bushco sez withdraw, they don't mean we're leaving
Not before 2006 at the earliest. They're candid about that, but are misleading folks into thinking we're gone next summer. Ain't so.

3. trying to sort out their lies
will make a person insane - the daily lie scale has been pegged for 3+ years.

The "early transfer of power" to puppets means absolutely zilch - the continued occupation will be covered in syrupy words and sold to the gullible public as a "plan".

The only plan that these folks have is called the Machiavellian Prince Principle -

The Prince embodies Machiavelli's response to the Italian crisis of disunity and foreign domination. Out of its pages, as George Bull put it in his introduction to the work, "strides the figure of the autocrat, the new man, ruthless, efficient, and defiant, the literary forerunner of the new monarchs of the sixteenth century."

Machiavelli's aim in the Prince is to tell the new rulers how to remain in power once they have gained it. The best way is to rule well. If this is not possible, then Machiavelli presents a variety of strategems for remaining in power. It is these which have given us the adjective "Machiavellian."

5. They have to make sure their puppet imperialist government
is going their way and doesnt end up in chaos..Chalabi is getting paid well to speak for the US Oil interests, and he will be the puppet regime..in time, it will collapse under the infighting and turmoil...mark my words..
The US * regime is afraid that a REAL democracy in Iraq means that US corporations wont get a foothold in there...if they people actually vote they might vote the whole * cabal out of the country..gotta leave the sold out puppet regime in place and protect it, or the money to Halliburton and Bechtel might stop rolling in. This, all at the cost of our kids lives. For nothing.

6. Early Iraq withdrawal rules out Rumsfeld
US $ for Soldiers runs out in March 04.

US/Israel have been stymied by Russian
frontline preemptive strike nuclear

and exposure of free Oil for Israel program.
See Eilat to Ashkelon -YukosOil pipeline
for details.

7. Stupid, stupid leaders.
They're playing the waiting game, to see how quickly they can get the oil out of the ground before the US money runs out.

My bet is that the money will run out before they can make Halliburton the #1 Oil Producer In The World. The muslims are very, very patient people. They are also smart. They know this entire battle will come down to the Deadline Trap.

On Machiavelli: very nice post UpInArms. I have also read The Prince. I wrote a long report on it, and I was the only one in my business class who agreed with Machiavelli's principles. Everyone else thought it was "ruthless" and "hateful". I didn't.

Machiavelli wanted good, strong leadership. He also understood the value of decent leaders. You can't just take bonehead Neanderthals like The BushInc and apply his principles, because they are not leaders. They are primitive thugs.

8. "Is the situation untidy? Yes."
"Do we wish we weren't taking casualties? Yes."
"Is the violence in Baghdad any worse than in Washington, D.C.? No."
"Do I sound like an idiot interviewing myself? You be the judge."

9. New Constitution will have "American Values"-says Bremer

Wow, I can't wait to see which ones!

Bremer says U.S. will "help" write the Constitution.

Iraqis might not know what a "shellgame" is, but they know bull-hit
when they smell it. Iraq, unlike Afghanistan, has an educated
population--another factor not in Rumsfeld's equation. Education
supplied free of charge by you-know-who. :0)
