LAT/Bloomberg poll: Doubts About Taking On Tehran
TIMES/BLOOMBERG POLL
Doubts About Taking On Tehran
About half those polled support military action if Iran continues its nuclear activity but don't trust President Bush to make the call.
By Doyle McManus, Times Staff Writer
April 13, 2006

WASHINGTON — Americans are divided over the prospect of U.S. military action against Iran if the government in Tehran continues to pursue nuclear technology — and a majority do not trust President Bush to make the "right decision" on that issue, a Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll has found.

Asked whether they would support military action if Iran continued to produce material that could be used to develop nuclear weapons, 48% of the poll's respondents, or almost half, said yes; 40% said no.

If Bush were to order military action, most respondents said they would support airstrikes against Iranian targets, and about one in four said they would support the use of American ground troops in Iran.

The findings of the poll, conducted largely before the Tehran government announced Monday that it had enriched uranium for civilian energy generation, reflected public concern about Iran's acquisition of nuclear technology — but public division over the best U.S. response....

***

In a telling reflection of Bush's erosion in public support, 54% said they did not trust him to "make the right decision about whether we should go to war with Iran," while 42% of respondents said they trusted him to do so....

1. I do feel that some kind of attack in Iran may be the only way he
thinks that he can save his failed presidency.

2. Once Again, Ma'am
It is demonstrated people are not nearly so stupid as they are frequently given credit for. this poll result shows the mass mind operating well and thinking clearly.

There are excellent arguments to be made for using whatever means prove necesssary for denying the mullahs governing Iran possession of nuclear weapons.

There is no reason whatever to suspect the present regime in the United States will make any correct judgement in this situation.

A strike against Iran, if executed by the criminals of the '00 Coup, will be carried out solely for domestic political considerations, in the hope of "cooking" the upcoming Congressional elections in their favor.

"LET'S GO GET THOSE BUSH BASTARDS!"

3. It would be the worst mistake he's ever made
and he's made a lot of them. How many servicemen have been killed to date in Iraq? How about that many on the 1st day - it would be an accurate estimate.

4. flags
I hate to report that I've seen (over the last few days) on the freeway in Phoenix 6 or 7 cars and trucks with oversized American flags hanging out of windows or flatbeds, and I think this is being done to show support for war with Iran. I can't explain it otherwise.

5. Probably has more to do with immigration
I think that some on the right are too busy worrying about Mexico to think of Iran.
