NBC/WSJ Poll: America Continues to Sour on Bush, Congress (Bush at 36%)

That's a four point bump from the 32% he's had for the last week.

I know it's a different poll, but...

... than other polls. Still, the article notes that 36% reflects a one-point drop from last month, and is his lowest rating in the poll to date.

32% was CNN, this is a NBC/WSJ poll. Networks tend to act like only their polls exist, and they ignore the polls done by other networks.

For a corporate poll like NBC/WSJ to rate in at 36% is pretty encouraging. Let's not complain.

I think it's much lower than they let on. I believe Bush's numbers are actually in the 'teens, like 18%, maybe 19%. That's why they're so desperate in Washington. They know the real story.

If so, vote Democrat this fall.

How will that anger play out in November’s midterm elections? Forty-five percent of registered voters say they prefer Democrats controlling Congress, compared with 39 percent who say they want Republicans in charge. That six-point Democratic advantage, however, is smaller than the 13-point advantage Democrats held in March or the nine-point advantage they had in January.

Yet while McInturff says voters “are not happy with either party,” he cautions against reading too much into that narrower margin, pointing out that all other polls he has seen show Democrats with a sizable lead.

McInturff is a Republican pollster. ;-)

Rising gas prices have intensified discontent with Washington and handed Congress a frightening midterm election backdrop: a deeply pessimistic electorate, despite a robust economy.

A new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll underscores a striking gap between Americans' mood and the nation's economic performance. Fully 77% call themselves uneasy about the state of the economy rather than confident, even as data showed new-home sales and factory orders remain strong. Economists expect a similar message tomorrow when the government reports on first-quarter growth.

Public unease partly reflects fallout from the prolonged and unpopular Iraq war. But it also shows the impact of pump prices topping $3 a gallon in many places, passing Iraq to become the nation's highest-priority issue. The upshot: Two-thirds of Americans say the nation is "off on the wrong track," President Bush's approval rating has fallen to 36% and Congress fares even worse at 22% approval.

"There's almost nothing that the public is satisfied with," says Democratic pollster Peter Hart, who conducts the Journal/NBC poll with Republican counterpart Bill McInturff. "What they're telling you is, they want change on every front."

They dont all poll the same people :)

looks like they haven't updated to include WSJ/NBC

They NEVER added the Harris poll from earlier this month to Bush approval but DID add it to the direction of the country numbers.




They consistently put Rasmussen in there to bring up the average when even Charlie Cook talked about the flawed methodology of Rasmussen and how he personally NEVER includes Rasmussen into his analysis.

It'll be interesting to see if they ever add this new one to the mix.
