Bush's best moment in office? Reeling in big perch (Reuters)
BERLIN (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush told a German newspaper his best moment in more than five years in office was catching a big perch in his own lake.

"You know, I've experienced many great moments and it's hard to name the best," Bush told weekly Bild am Sonntag when asked about his high point since becoming president in January 2001.

"I would say the best moment of all was when I caught a 7.5 pound (3.402 kilos) perch in my lake," he told the newspaper in an interview published on Sunday.

Bush said the worst moment was September 11 when hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Centre in New York and the Pentagon in Washington.

1. A perch?
A fucking perch? He can't point to something significant in the WH itself, (which is a friggin' crime in itself) but a 7 lb perch gets the nod? If it were a bass, ok. But a Perch on his privately stocked lake?

What a sociopath.

20. No freaking joke
Maybe he could have caught a sheefish north of the arctic circle. A trophy bass, in a non-stocked environment. A fresh from the sea steelhead. Maybe handwrestled a monster channel cat from some nameless lake. But a perch? From his own pond? That speaks volumes about how truly mediocre and pathetic * is.
You're born into all that money and power, get appointed preznit, and the best you can do is a perch? I'm stunned.

Nile perch. Non-native. They can get that big I guess. Bigger than native perches at any rate. But he's probably lying about the size of his fish too!

Of course that still begs the question of whether they would be in his lake. It might have been a carp for all we know.

He's got the common touch, not like those thinkers and planners who hurt our troops by questioning his wisdom.

It's enough to make Baby Jesus poop his diaper.

But we can cheer him up. Let's all have a beer with him!

(Bush, not Baby Jesus.)

His worst was catching the fish because Uncle Cheney wouldn't led him hold the fishing pole.

13. Check the last paragraph in the Reuters story
Because Bild could not immediately furnish English quotes, Bush's comments were translated from the German. The paper said the White House planned to release an authorised English version of the interview on Monday.

Watch them whitewash this interview and the MSM fall for it (again).

http://www.rook.org/earl/bwca/nature/fish/percaflav.html
• World Record: 4 lbs, 3 oz, from Cross Wicks Creek, New Jersey, 1865

Walleyes get to be 10 lbs and they are members of the perch family. the Yellow Perch has vertical stripes, the Walleye is speckled.

He could have confused it with a smallmouth bass, but I doubt it.

23. a truly GREAT leader's best moment would have been when
s/he saved tens or hundreds of thousands of lives before, during, and after Hurricane Katrina by mobilizing the entire mighty might of (what used to be) the richest nation on earth. Then s/he could point to an innovative recovery plan that would engage not only New Orleanians but also the entire country in a friendly and cooperative sharing and rebuilding effort that would help the economy and restore a small city to even better condition.

or it could have been when s/he brought the world together in peace and cooperation after the most horrific attack on U.S. soil (which would have been SO easy to do, what with the global outpouring of sympathy and assistance).

the little shit-stain is so far down on the scale of greatness that a new subterranean level has to be formulated just for him. From now on, for the next several hundred years, "sinking to the level of GWBush" will be the ultimate insult, indicating total and incomprehensible mediocrity and incompetence.

Edited on Sun May-07-06 11:13 AM by mcscajun
I post this for contrast, from President Clinton's interview by Jim Lehrer, June 11, 1999:

JIM LEHRER: As we sit here right now, Mr. President, is this the best moment of your presidency?

PRESIDENT CLINTON: Oh, no, I won't say that. I don't know. So many things have happened here at home that have been important to me; passing economic plan, passing the Brady Bill and assault weapons ban, so many things have happened internationally, the role that I was fortunate to be able to play in the peace process in the Middle East and in Northern Ireland, but this could have the biggest long-term positive consequences if we do it right. But frankly, I hadn't, you know -- Sometimes people say "do you feel vindicated?" The answer is no. I think America has been vindicated. I think what we stand for has been vindicated. But keep in mind that there have been times in the past where people win a conflict and then squander the peace. So a lot of our work is still ahead of us. We've gotta get the people home, get the land mines up, work out the details of who is involved in the peacekeeping mission. We have to get this -- We've got to organize police forces and civil government for the Kosovars. And then the really big thing over the long-run, our European friends want to take the lead in this but we ought to help them, we've got to get the World Bank and all these other people involved in a development plan for the Balkans that involves not just Kosovo, but Macedonia, Albania, Bulgaria, Romania, and I hope someday Serbia if they have a government that respects freedom and democracy and human rights. So that these people have something pulling them together instead of these ancient ethnic troubles pulling them apart.

Now if we get all that done, it might be perhaps the most satisfying thing because it might prove that people can lay down their hatreds of people who are different. You know, I basically think free people will figure out a way to make the most of their lives and work out their problems if they can get the rules of engagement right. That's why I gave somewhat of an extended answer to what you said about the Republicans. Because, I think, you know, differences are good. Nobody's got the whole truth. But you gotta get the rules of engagement right. And I think what we did in Kosovo was profoundly important.

JIM LEHRER: Mr. President, thank you very much.

PRESIDENT CLINTON: Thank you.

39. How did Carter answer that question or Clinton?
How did President Carter answer the question?

"I think the best time was probably dealing with the Middle East issue at Camp David," he said, "and even better I think was the peace treaty that came along six months later. I made a very difficult decision over the almost unanimous opposition of my cabinet and my staff to take the initiative and to go to Egypt and to go to Israel to try to get Begin and Sadat to agree on a peace treaty. And when they did sign-both of them signed the agreement-I guess that was probably my best moment."

64. The quote about 9-11, caught my eye

Bush said the worst moment was September 11 when hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Centre in New York and the Pentagon in Washington.

"In such a situation it takes a while before one understands what is happening," Bush said. "I would say that this was the hardest moment, once I had the real picture before my eyes."

Was his best moment invading Afghanistan or Iraq? Signing off on tax cuts for the wealthy or legislation that increased pollution? Outing an undercover CIA agent? Maybe it was when Dick shot that guy because, for once, Cheney looked dumber than him.

Yeah, go with the perch story, George. It's safe. And, no doubt, it has the Karen Hughes Seal of Approval™ for being just exactly what America's moms and dads want to hear. Let's just hope nobody catches on to the fact that perches that large exist only between your lying teeth.

88. My morning paper (in Canada) said large mouthed bass as well
It doesn't give a source:

"Bush lists fishing as top presidential moment

WASHINGTON - U.S. President George W. Bush says his best moment as president was the time he caught a 3.4-kilogram largemouth bass. "

You need a registration for the rest of the story, but the exact quote given is: "I would say the best moment was when I caught a 7 1/2 pound largemouth bass on my lake," Bush said, laughing."

It looks like Winston Smith has been at work again.

perch grow that big. I am pretty sure that 4 pounds would be considered very big. Does he even lie about things like fish? Or is he an incompetant fisherman too and does not know the difference between a perch and a large mouth bass or catfish?

92. What he probably caught was a Talapia
but he doesn't want to admit it.

In the south, a lot of people call Talapia, Nile Perch.

They get very large but they are an exotic introduced species. That's not the type of fish, even this asshole wants to admit to catching. A large mouth bass is much more macho with the good ol' boy fishing types that he's trying to appeal to.

93. Does he even lie about things like fish?
That's what pathological liars do.

Two years ago, he lied about falling off his bike because the trails were wet- and yet the weather records in Crawford showed that it hadn't rained in weeks. Why would anyone give a shit about why he fell off his bike? They wouldn't but a pathological lair doesn't care- they just lie whenever it suits them.
