By MICHAEL J. SNIFFEN
Associated Press Writer

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) -- Convicted Sept. 11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui says he lied on the witness stand about being involved in the plot and wants to withdraw his guilty plea because he now believes he can get a fair trial.

In a motion filed Friday but released Monday, Moussaoui said he testified March 27 he was supposed to hijack a fifth plane on Sept. 11, 2001, and fly it into the White House "even though I knew that was a complete fabrication."

... Moussaoui's court-appointed lawyers told the court they filed the motion even though a federal rule "prohibits a defendant from withdrawing a guilty plea after imposition of sentence." They did so anyway because of their "problematic relationship with Moussaoui" and the fact that new lawyers have yet to be appointed to replace them.

52. He said, in effect, "Just kidding . . .wasn't REALLY gunna crash
a plane into the White House." This, to me, goes to show that not giving him the death penalty was the right decision. Deprived of his bogus glory, he now is said to think that maybe he could get an aquittal.

16. And that's the problem.
No one believed that he was involved and he obviously wasn't.

He's been sentenced to life in prison for being a liar, and a stupid liar at that.
One wishes that they'd get a conviction on a legit charge - I have no problem with
life in jail for this guy.

Mr M is still thumbing his nose at the American legal system.

22. Wacko or insane?
From the start, his assertions have been all over the place. He made a lot of wacky claims that could not be corroborated. He was out of control emotionally throughout the trial. It struck me as a bizarre performance. I would imagine a psychiatric examination of someone like him, especially under these circumstances, would be very difficult

If trying this delusional wacko was the best we could come up with to punish the perpetrators of Sept 11 -- heaven help us, we have failed.

"...wants to withdraw his guilty plea because he now believes he can get a fair trial." Glad he has come around to the notion that the US system of justice, however flawed, works, even with hot button issues like terrorism and for unsympathetic characters like him. What a wild and crazy guy.

"Moussaoui's court-appointed lawyers told the court they filed the motion even though a federal rule "prohibits a defendant from withdrawing a guilty plea after imposition of sentence." They did so anyway because of their "problematic relationship with Moussaoui" and the fact that new lawyers have yet to be appointed to replace them." After they did so, I bet next thing they did was to wash down their Excederin with lots of Jack Daniels.

Part of an elaborate scheme to tie the legal system up in knots and keep himself and his cause in the news forever. All the while, looking for SOME way to get off, or get sprung.

Think about it. With all these stunts, if he gets a new trial he pleads not guilty and claims insanity, and look at all the evidence there is now...............

24. Greatest ? How unusual, usually these posts are hidden in the dungeon
Actually I think this post and all others about 9-11 should be front page, middle page, greatest page,Fuck tack it to Jimmy Page as long as the truth gets out there. I can't understand why the 9-11 forum is treated the way it is at DU.

The one guy that they try to pin this on, now admits that it was all a fabrication huh go figure.

When they make a tortured, mind controlled patsy wear a stun belt during his federal trial to control his actions, just might make one or two of us CTers kind of suspicious as to just who really killed all those people on 9-11.

And being one of those crazy CTers that has a strong belief that the nazis in the WH did this cowardly act ,to be able to advance their agenda, just keeps making me look crazier and crazier.

OPEN YOUR EYES FOLKS, INVESTIGATE 9-11!! TALK TO PEOPLE, READ THE ENORMOUS MOUNTAIN OF CIRCUMSTANTIAL EVIDENCE ON MANY WEBSITES, VISIT THE 9-11 FORUM AND DISCUSS THIS!! FUCK!! WHAT IF THIS WAS YOUR LOVED ONES? WOULD YOU THINK YOU WHERE GETTING A FAIR SHAKE AT AN INVESTIGATION TO GET THE PEOPLE THAT KILLED YOUR SON,DAUGHTER,MOTHER OR FATHER ?

They have 3 people in custody and 1 shady conviction,2 will never go to trial.

19 hijackers that had very little flight experience in small planes, took 4 huge airliners and went 3 for 4 in hits. All commanded by a guy in a cave in Afghanistan. Ha....I would laugh but this is no laughing matter.

LET 9-11 POSTS STAY ON GD AND GREATEST!! THIS NEEDS TO BE DISCUSSED

37. personally, i think he's doing a heckuva job
of making a mockery of our justice system.

it was obvious to all from the beginning that he would be convicted. not because of any hard evidence but because of our prejudice against anybody connected to the sept 11 attacks. HE knew he would be convicted, so he went along and confessed, basically speeding up the whole process, only to change his story, really not much different than any previous convictions for lesser crimes based on things like coerced confessions. now the burden of proof is back on the prosecution to show that they had something more than his confession to being a co-conspirator. basically we are convicting him of being willing to say anything to make the United States look bad. it really doesn't make the prosecution look good when the main evidence they convicted him on is his own wild story that he and Richard Reid were to fly a fifth plane, a story that NOBODY believed. so now we're back to square one, except we got him on perjury...the same charge Scooter Libbey is sure to get off on.

we've got him right where he want's us.

38. I think it was a double-bluff...
Moussaoui made it seem as though he wanted martyrdom hoping that the jury would deny it to him out of spite.

In the end the jury denied it to him because of mitigating factors including the fact that he didn't seem to know much about the actual 9/11 plot.

Now Moussaoui probably realizes that American jurors are smarter than he gave them credit for and might have actually given him a fair trial.
