Heavyweight great Patterson dies

Former world heavyweight champion Floyd Patterson has died aged 71.

The American, who had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease and prostate cancer, passed away at his home in New Paltz, New York on Thursday.

Patterson, from Brooklyn, won Olympic middleweight gold in 1952 before embarking on a glittering pro career.

He became the youngest heavyweight champion in 1956 by stopping Archie Moore aged just 21. He was also the first fighter to regain the title.
