Iran and Turkey fire salvo over Iraq
By Sami Moubayed

DAMASCUS - Both Turkey and Iran have been launching military raids into northern Iraq against a Kurdish paramilitary group that is based there, posing a dangerous new threat to stability both within Iraq and to the region.

The Iraq-based Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK), labeled a terrorist group by the United States, Britain and the European Union, is a paramilitary party that preaches Kurdish nationalism, especially in Turkey, where it is demanding political rights and better living standards for the country's 12 million Kurds.

Turkey recently launched a massive military operation involving more than 250,000 troops against the PKK (nearly double the number of US troops in Iraq), concentrated in the mountains along Turkey's borders with Iran and Iraq. Extensive incursions into

northern Iraq have been reported, aimed at cutting off the PKK's supply lines to Turkey from its camps in northern Iraq. Turkey also claims that "the PKK has recently increased its activities and obtained weapons from Iraq".

1. The Kurds and Iranians are not going to allow the Kurds
to run free up there in Northern Iraq. After political pressure forces the US out of Iraq Northern Iraq will be divided between Iran and Turkey and Iran will also take Southern Iraq. The middle of Iraq will be a endless war zone and western Iraq will be a terrorist base.

Mission Accomplished.

2. Hey um, with all fairness, the PKK's activities in Turkey are not exactly
conducive to stability within Turkey and the region, either.

That they don't officially have a country shouldn't be used as an excuse in a case like this, IMHO.

3. Turkey launched a military op with more than 250,000 troops!!
My gawd, they could probably take over Iraq, jk

Would be nice if they could help us get some peace in Iraq and that would include other neighboring countries. Don't think bush would allow any interference. None of these action are shocking since we know some of these problems are centuries old. I'd like to see a map of the region before Great Britian marched in.

4. No help needed for peace as if bush would allow any help, ha.
Peace in Iraq is not going to happen. If it happened before the election it would be no good for us anyway so fuck that.

Side note:
This seems like crap anti arab propaganda that tries to blame all our troubles in iraq on outside influences. Yeah right.

5. "If peace happened before the election it would be no good for us"
Is that what it's *really* all about for you?

The way I see it, if peace happened before the election, it might help the HUNDREDS OR THOUSANDS OF POOR SLOBS who will otherwise be blown up, shot, kidnapped, or maimed.

But hey, a small price to pay if we can get some more votes, right?

Sheesh.

6. For many its all about the votes.
There was a thread on Clark recently and history of ex-professional soldiers in high government positions and how they almost always ended badly (both the goverments and the ex-professional soldiers in question) See the history of post colonial Africa and South America. More military dictators than you can shake your special edition of Britannica at. Anyways, somebody said something in a context of that even if Clark turned out to be a incompetent leader, or a military dictator of some sort, it doesn't matter really because he'll steals votes from the Republicans, being a general and all that.

8. You know, you would think the would LEARN to be more clever
Edited on Sat May-13-06 03:37 AM by TheWatcher
But after seeeing the same methods and M.O.'s they use here time and time again, I am convinced they really DO have a herd mentailty, and they simply can't be clever, even if someone could teach them.

They aren't CAPABLE of being clever, and if they knew the basics of how to be a mole, they literally CAN'T pull it off because it simply isn't their nature.
