Bush 'committed' to Iraq success

WASHINGTON, May 12 (UPI) -- U.S. President George Bush told a group of former secretaries of Defense and State that his administration remains "committed to success" in Iraq.

A total of 10 former U.S. leaders gathered at the White House with Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and the current secretaries of State and Defense Friday to discuss Iraq and the Middle East.

Bush admitted that some of the former officials -- such as Clinton administration Secretary of State Madeleine Albright -- disagreed with him about starting military action against Iraq but said, "Now the fundamental question is, how do we achieve our objectives, which (are) a democracy which can defend itself, sustain itself, a country which is an ally in the war on terror, and a country which serves as a powerful example for others who desire to be free."

"I'm optimistic about our successes," the president said. "I know this: The only way we will not succeed is if we lose our nerve, we don't have faith in our values and that we're constantly changing tactics on the ground to achieve our objectives."

10. I'm looking for a quantum state change

ChimpCo are gonna ride their train all the way to Hell. They'll never back down. As long as they hold the keys--let's all understand clearly that they do--they are going to pursue their reality to it's inevitable conclusion, whatever that might be. ChimpCo's only reaction now is to try to hold their political power intact. They still have the House and mostly the Senate in their hands. But that's not going to remain that way.

We're at a crucial juncture here. Two months ago I thought things could not sink lower. But I have since come to the conclusion that what is going to happen is that Chimp and Co are never going to change neither their tack, nor their tactics. They don't know how to do anything else. Their solution to all problems is the same. Pile on more politics. However, in doing so, they are acting as a positive feedback system to their own demise.

It's like many physical processes. You can chill liquid water far below the freezing point without it solidifying if the water is pure and still. Without a platform on which to perch, the state change to ice does not happen. However, jiggle it, or drop in an insignificant piece of detritus and the state change spreads out from the point of origin until the whole lot is solidified. Once that begins, there's no stopping it.

As ChimpCo continues to act like they have political capital to spend, they perturb the system further--chilling it below the point where a political state change would normally occur. At some point an event will act as the perch on which the whole political scene will change.

I'll leave it to others to speculate on the consequences of such a change. As Greece found out in the 1960's not all the scenerios are positive. I really hope that somebody with some rational thinking is positioned to fill a possible leadership void.

13. Yes, I've come to the same conclusion.
Bush and his cronies will continue on the same path. Why? Because they have no other choice. They are simply locked into a path of their own making. They've cornered all the power to themselves. They've set in motion an enormous machinery that's difficult to slow down at this point.

Look at Dick Cheney. He takes great pride in NEVER, EVER changing his set goals, no matter what the criticism, no matter the outcome, even. He is dead-set, locked on his goals and plans. While Bush may waver and even back down on some things, Cheney is unable to change.

They've told themselves, over and over, that the path to success lies in ignoring EVERYTHING but the goals, the plans. Keep at it, day and night. Keep hammering away, no matter what they say, no matter how much they complain.

We knew it was going to be tough going. We knew it was going to be a hard sell. But we've come this far, and we're going to keep going until the bitter end.

11. Brilliant plan, Junior
So, "success" in Iraq is assured if the United States government follows this 3-point plan:

1. Keep its "nerve"
2. Have faith in its "values"
3. Do not change tactics on the ground

That is dangerously stupid thinking. There really needs to be a serious discussion in Congress regarding his mental function and fitness for office.
