Utah raises bar on teen births: State plans to reduce rates 20% by 2015
Saturday, May 13, 2006

By Angie Welling and Jennifer Toomer-Cook
Deseret Morning News

The Utah Department of Health announced Friday that it's notching up teen pregnancy prevention efforts. The action came at the same time the State Board of Education wiped its pregnancy prevention programs off the books ...

... in 2001, the Utah Legislature turned down about $250,000 a year in grants from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which assisted those prevention efforts.

Lawmakers ... voted to replace those monies with state funds, then rolled them into a block grant to be generally spent on at-risk students.

... the State Board of Education voted Friday to delete all references to pregnancy prevention in its school-governing rules ...

3. No, they'll throw little girls into prison for being sexually active
but those good religious people will NEVER consider birth control to prevent pregnancy nor abortion if the birth control fails.

It's the only way they're capable of thinking. They utterly despise anything female.

2. nope, USDHHS gave them an ---abstinence-based sex education.

The health department has secured a $288,000 annual grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, funds that will go to eight community-based programs that provide abstinence-based sex education.

The Pregnancy Resource Center of Salt Lake will use the funds for its SEAL (Sexual Education for Abstinent Lifestyles) program, which visits middle schools in the Salt Lake Valley and Washington County to teach classes about abstinence.
Wearing a black T-shirt bearing the words "Sex Makes Babies," SEAL program's Angela Rohr extolled the virtues of abstinence programs vs. more comprehensive ones, which give equal weight to abstinence and contraceptives.
"I've been in abstinence sex education for over 20 years and I know it works," she said. "If you're not having sex, you're not going to have to worry about teen pregnancy."

5. Forced sterilization, maybe? I mean, if the gals can't use
contraception or Plan B or abortion and Mother Nature has designed abstinence as a non-option (either because of her lust or his aggression), then sterilization is the only alternative.

Oh, wait, can prayer stop a pregnancy? Oh, forget that. I'm getting nutty now.

6. That's easy.
Clamp down on the FLDS & its practices of allowing Warren Jeffs & his ilk to marry 13-year-olds to old men & breeding indiscriminately. That alone should bring down the teen pregnancy rate!

9. For that, they'd have to convince males to keep their sperm to themselves.
No one in this great society of ours has managed to yet effect that miracle. Good luck, Utah. Not gonna happen.

13. No
there are a lot of plural wives in Utah, but Id bet they still only account for less than 3% of all births in the state.
