Laura Bush doesn't believe bad polls on husband
Laura Bush doesn't believe bad polls on husband

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - First lady Laura Bush said on Sunday she does not believe opinion polls showing her husband's approval ratings at record low levels.

Interviewed on Fox News Sunday, Laura Bush said she did not think people were losing confidence in President George W. Bush, despite a series of polls showing support for him at its lowest point in his five-year presidency and among the lowest for any president in the past 50 years.

"I don't really believe those polls. I travel around the country. I see people, I see their responses to my husband. I see their response to me," she said.

"As I travel around the United States, I see a lot of appreciation for him. A lot of people come up to me and say, 'Stay the course'."

Otherwise his drop would look too drastic. They've been padding him for years, why would they stop now?

Edit: not to defend Laura Bush, but did she say how she didn't believe them? Perhaps she thinks they are too high also. She does know him better than anybody else would ever want to.

In denial, too, I'd say. And also, don't forget, HER polls ARE higher than his. People will behave around the pretty lady with the nice surface demeanor.

I'm sure they don't let her anywhere near Cindy Sheehan or any of the other mothers who've lost sons (and daughters), I'm sure she doesn't have to bother her own beautiful mind about the Code Pink people, or the MFSO people, or the Mainstreet Moms, or any others. They'll send her around Dumbfuckistan and Jeeezusland and let her chirp and it makes for some nice photo ops. Nothing of substance. Just like herself.

i got to see her say that to some fox interviewer who hit her with a couple of suprisingly hardball questions too. no followup of course, but it was funny to see her reaction. i swear she's some sort of stepford first lady. she has a total of three, maybe four, expressions; 'happy', 'pissed off', 'suprised', and 'blank' (probably the default setting).

19. ABC's "This Week,"--she says Jr polls are bad cause the country has
has a bad year. umm...Laura--have you ever thought the country had a bad year cause of BushCo???

.In a separate interview on ABC's "This Week," Laura Bush said her husband's popularity was suffering because the country had been through a difficult year.

We've had a very, very difficult year, starting with the hurricane last September, but already because of the terrorist attack in 2001 and then the war on terror since then," she said. "He's the one that has to make the hard decisions. And, of course, they don't please everyone."

Mrs. Bush complained that when her husband's popularity was high, newspapers did not put that on the front page. Now it was low, they took great delight in highlighting the fact.

Asked if she thought the media had been unfair, Mrs. Bush said: "No, I don't think it's necessarily unfair. I think it's just, you know, I think they may be enjoying this a little bit."

or in the home of an elderly person who can neither figure out nor afford Medicare Part D, or in an unemployment line, or in a classroom in a school where budgets have been cut to the bone and a teacher is fighting an uphill battle not to leave the students behind, or in a grocery store where people trying to feed their families face sticker shock every day, or in the home of an uninsured worker who just received a cancer diagnosis, or in the home of a family facing foreclosure because they were living paycheck to paycheck and one of those paychecks has just been outsourced to a worker who'll do the job cheaper elsewhere, or on a streetcorner far from the Green Zone in Baghdad, or, as another poster suggested, just deposit her at any gas station in America.

If Pickles had to spend 10 minutes in the real world, she'd return to the WH so shellshocked she'd refill her meds and remain there blissfully zoned out until Jan. 09.

have already been to the real world ONCE when they did a photo op at Walter Reed. They left in tears vowing never to return as it was 'just too upsetting' to see all those boys and girls in pain.

GIVE ME A F*****G break you pissant marionette.....

My dad was there at the hospital that day and he said it was pathetic the way the simian spawn were carrying on and Pickles was as wooden as a person could get. She only went thru the motions of 'caring' and had no clue what to say or do when approached by an amputee or a head wounded soldier. I can't even type about the twins...god help us, I hope they don't breed. The gene pool can't get any shallower on that end.

143. Welcome to DU. I knew Pickles was a heartless
empty shell before the 2000 selection when I read a magazine interview in which she was asked about the traffic accident in which she killed a high school friend. Her response to the interviewer was that was a difficult time in her life and that she didn't want to be reminded of it.

Imagine being responsible for someone's death and only being able to speak about it in terms of how it affected you. What about that poor kid's family? She didn't even pretend to go through the motions of caring.

Whoever set up the visit to Walter Reed probably caught hell for it later. Elite snobs like the chimp clan simply can't relate to pain and suffering. Old bat Babs summed it up when she had the audacity to tell a tv interviewer she didn't want to taint her "beautiful mind" with thoughts of wounded and dead soldiers. This as her spawn was gleefully launching shock and awe. They are one sick bunch.

Er, Laura - those are hand-picked/screened audiences; Of course you speak with folks who support your hubby. All dissent has been screened out. The question is if you have noticed, or will notice that the size of the groups have gotten smaller and smaller - that would indicate that there is a decreasing pool of folks to choose from to include in the hand-picked/screened audiences (that, Lauara, is called an inference: smaller pool = fewer folks in general who support hubby.)

Sheez.

57. When does she ever meet real folks?
The woman who is touted in the media for being a knowledge loving reader not only rejects polls (at least the one that don't glorify monkey boy), but feels that reality is better served by reactions of carefully screened photo-op attendees that manage to approach her? Don't cry for me, Houston Texas....

"Stay the course"? Yeah -- the Kilkenny Cats Doctrine.

She is a loyal wife standing by her man. (Although I question her sanity and judgement :-))

It has been my observation that they trot her out as a last resort, when the Bush Crime Family is sinking, for whatever reason. She is called upon to be the raft that saves all their sorry butts. She may not be universally admired as an outstanding woman, but it is safe to say she is the least hated, least divisive member of the administration's circle.

If Laura would falter, I guess they have to call on Barney to issue statements of support.

there are very real reasons people are dissatisfied with his performance and address them. Tossing off a line like "stay the course" is disingenuous at best, but given the cherrypicked people she meets, it's no surprise that's her assessment. Like Bush, her head's in the sand and she's quite happy with that. That's disgusting.

If she had any sense of decency, she'd address the how BushCo's "hard decisions" affect everyday people. Of course, she has no idea about that.

136. only four more stages to go!
Mrs. Bush complained that when her husband's popularity was high, newspapers did not put that on the front page. Now it was low, they took great delight in highlighting the fact.

They not only put it on the front page, they crammed it down our throats on broadcast media continuously: "This popular president..." ad nauseum .

There was never a moment when the broadcast or print media in this country FAILED to remind us that george bush was "popular."

It is, however, kind of entertaining that they carry such stories as this, where Pickles comes to terms. Her next stages are:

Anger (why is this happening to me?)
Bargaining (I promise I'll be a better person if...)
Depression (I don't care anymore)
Acceptance (I'm ready for whatever comes)

141. The MSM cowered to W
in the most disgusting way. We attack a third rate country with a 5th rate military who never threatened us and W is proud of that fact?

145. this is their way
of crapping on the American People, they continually show their disrespect to the American People.

Not paying attention to the polls, is their way of saying they are not paying attention to the American People.

147. dumb is as dumb does
how can you believe a woman who has killed at least one person, who's husband is responsible for killing thousands, who supports the lies that kill. Man, this whole family Bushit is something else. They sure don't understand the concept of equality.

149. Bwah! Come to the Middle East and ask, Pickles!
In this neck of the woods 29% would be an upgrade for Shrub. And I'm in Egypt, theoretically one of our staunch allies in the War On Terriers, blah-blah-blah...

As I've ranted many times before, it is impossible to overstate the disgust in the Middle East for the gang of criminal kooks stinking up the White House. I talk to all sorts of Egyptians every day: military personnel, college students, peasant farmers.

They ALL hate Bush. I mean...no one even has a remotely nice word to say about him.

Unless this counts, from a military officer last week when he read about Bush's favorite presidential moment (the fish) in the Egyptian press: "Bush is somewhat retarded, isn't he?"

150. Let's be fair to Pickles. I'm sure that
Catherine the Great said the same thing when she saw all those villages Potemkin had built in the Crimea. "I travel around the country. I see people. . . . I see their response to me," she said.
Pickles, you are such a buffoon.
