Report: 28 Bodies Found in Algeria

ALGIERS, Algeria — Security forces found 28 bodies, most of them children, in a secluded cave used as a hideout by an Algerian Islamic militant group, a newspaper reported Sunday.

The bodies were discovered Saturday in the Beni Khatab mountains, about 280 miles east of the capital, where authorities were hunting suspected members of the al-Qaida-linked Salafist Group for Call and Combat, the El Chourouk newspaper reported.

It was unclear how long ago the victims had died. There were 21 children, four women and three militants, the paper said. Security forces did not immediately confirm the report.

The North African nation's insurgency has waned in recent years, with far fewer killings and kidnappings.

1. "al-Qaeda linked"
I doubt that.

Read Robert Fisk's the great war for civilisation book. It talks about the algerian conflict. Algeria is a US ally in the "war on terror" I believe, strange considering its government is near fascist (not saying everything the rebels do is right, just saying).

2. Smells like a plant to me...
Sorry, but * and company are cornered and would be more than capable of manufacturing such a story (as in, "Look, look, what those Al-Qaida bastards do to children if they are not constantly watched"). I am waiting for the follow-up, which will probably be something like: "The Algerian government has decided to increase domestic surveillance of the communications industry, to avoid such an attack again.":evilfrown:
