Bush: U.S. Not Listening to Domestic Calls
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060516/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush_3

WASHINGTON - President Bush insisted Tuesday that the United States does not listen in on domestic telephone conversations among ordinary Americans. But he declined to say whether the government's compiling of phone records was an invasion of privacy.

"We do not listen to domestic phone calls without court approval," Bush said in an East Room news conference with Australian Prime Minister John Howard.

"What I've told the American people is we'll protect them against an al-Qaida attack. And we'll do that within the law," Bush said.

"This government will continue to guard the privacy of the American people. But if al-Qaida is calling into the United States, we want to know, and we want to know why," the president added.

However, Bush did not respond directly when asked whether it was a violation of privacy for the National Security Agency to seek phone records from telephone companies.

Wow! I can't even count all of the LIES!

I have no indignation left. Almost no anger either. Exposure to systematic and blatant deception just wears off any impulse to counter, explain or even comment. Time to stare at the sky.

14. I just called Verizon
and let them have it. I asked them, "Why did you betray me?" "Why did you turn over my phone calls to Bush?"

Then I said, "I'm switching over to QWest".

17. Did they respond with "No comment"?
That's all I got for the multiple emails on this topic I sent them. I finally gave up and instructed them to close my account. I don't have access to qwest, but I do have Working Assets.

Actually, though, this was something I ought to have done a long time ago - apart from their crimes against the fourth amendment, Verizon is, of the telecom companies, by far the biggest contributor to the GOP, with special generosity being shown to Tom Delay and his Americans for a Republican Majority PACs. So, for a variety of reasons, Verizon is amongst the slimiest of the slimeballs and deserves no one's business.

16. "When Bush plays tennis, he beats his wife."
Important: "Without court approval."

What court? Who? What kind of process?

Important: "We do not listen in"

Look for "Recordings are made of everything, but without Scalia's say-so we don't listen to them."

A six-year-old could write this crap.

18. Dream DEM response: "On what basis should I take your word for it?"
"Please point to an issue, any issue that this admin has not lied (and use that word) about and I'll consider this statement. As it is, I have to assume everything Bush says is either half true or an outright lie (and use that word)...But I'm open minded- is there a single issue-any issue- that he has NOT lied about?"

Of course, as the title says- this is a "dream" DEM response- we all know they are too frightened to be that agressive or creative.

23. A lot more people want to atack us now, thanks to Bush.
"What I've told the American people is we'll protect them against an al-Qaida attack. And we'll do that within the law," Bush said.
What if another terrorist organisation attacks us? If its not al-Qaida will Bush do nothing like the first time they attacked us, and then they'll get put on the list. He did nothing about hurricane Katrina, but maybe if it was hurricane al-Qaida he would have sent troops.

26. Technically correct. The US doesn't listen. That job was outsourced
probably to some outfit in Mumbai. Just like we outsourced the task of finding Bin Laden and torturing prisoners. Notice Bush says "We do not listento domestic phone calls..." That's giving the asshat a whole lot of plausible deniability. Trust me. Somebody's listening.

27. Depends on what the definition of "we" is.
"We do not listen..."
Actual listening subcontracted?
Voice recognition technology pulling keywords for closer inspection (by subcontractors)?
Not the administration, but rather the RNC?

Who, specifically, is this "we"?

Liar! We know that they are up to all kinds of criminal activity. The way they parse words, even outright LYING to the American people probably gives them immunity in one of his asinine (but legal) signing statements.

I don't believe a word anyone from Dear Leader's Administration says. :grr:

41. they aren't listening, just recording phone numbers of every call both ways
there is a record of who called who when and how long they talked, actually it is just the numbers but it takes only 5 seconds to get the name and address and all the bank records and what political party they are registered with. so if they need to twist an arm they just arrest all your friends and threatened to have them all ass raped in prison if you dont give a list of all the Islamic terrorist agents you know.

why isn't there something being done about the government allowing institutional homosexual rape as torture in our prisons..??

42. I don't believe that the NSA is competent to do anything that the
press claims they are doing. It's essentially a worthless agency that has been credited with doing things they have never demonstrated in any way or form. It's science fiction, none of the "leaked" programs make any sense. It appears to be somebody's half ass idea of wartime disinformation to make the "enemy" believe we have capabilities we don't have.
