The NSA can break anything. They have massive super computers that make mincemeat of breaking these schemes.

The NSA can break anything indeed. But mass-breaking, say over 10,000 codes, is not realistic. Too much computing power and bucks for the bang. There needs to be a very narrow selection, which implies very stringent criteria, which implies a strong theory, which is not available.

PGP gives you the illusion of security. It can be broken by authorities. So saying : "oh don't worry about the NSA use PGP" is dishonest.

monitoring all encrypted internet communication is not feasable. Theoretically, you can also tail everyone in this nation: you just need one agent per subject. It is possible but not feasable. But I see your point.

If the NSA is smart, they would concentrate on messages where there was encryption or where someone tried to use an anonymous service. If someone is making a regular phone call over their own land line, the odds are pretty low they are Al Qaida.

Which, by the way is the basics of clandestinity. There's no end to that game. But what remains is the mass of data.

The only substantive information here is that someone put together a hardware package with the speed and storage to record everything (so they say) for some unspecified period. It would result in a really huge data set if continued for any length of time at any major ISP.

When using ANY form of electronic communications, you should assume you can be watched and recorded. This has ALWAYS been the case. The same actually applies in almost all other circumstances in which you are in what passes for civilization these days.
