Lieberman Dials Up Convention Support
He was leaning the other way weeks ago, but Bob Sanchez of New Britain intends to vote for Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman at the Democratic nominating convention Friday, rewarding Lieberman for a diligent piece of one-to-one campaigning.

"He actually called me four times," said Sanchez, a Head Start administrator who had been angry with Lieberman over the war and skeptical of his commitment to Democratic ideals. "I had four conversations with him."

Lieberman, 64, a three-term senator never seriously challenged for his party's endorsement, has had to work as never before to convince Democrats that he deserves their support, even though a majority object to his backing of the war in Iraq.

He is virtually guaranteed of winning the convention, but his anti-war challenger, Ned Lamont, is expected to carry at least 15 percent of the vote, qualifying him for a rare primary against a sitting senator. Even if Lamont should fall short, he still can petition his way onto the ballot.

Plenty more on Lieberman's troubles at the convention:

2. Lamont's supporters at the convention were wearing the Bush kiss button
The rest of the article gives the impression that Lieberman is going to have problems getting 85% of the delegates votes.

5. A question...
"Lieberman, an Orthodox Jew, will be absent from the convention Friday night in observance of the Sabbath. In other years, he has recorded a message accepting the nomination.
This year, Lieberman has decided that a prerecorded message would be inappropriate. His acceptance speech will be delivered by a surrogate, Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-3rd District."

If Lamont gets the 15% necessary for a primary, will DeLauro still deliver Lieberman's acceptance speech?

6. Interesting isn't it?
In that case, yes he gets the party nomination but all he wins is the right to run in a primary against Lamont. In theory Lamont would also have gotten the party nomination to run in a primary against Lieberman.

10. I signed a petition to get the primary for Lamont & petitioner said he was
getting an unbelievable response, positively speaking. A LOT of people in our town want this primary. On top of that, our DTC took a straw poll and it was 11 for Lieberbush, 8 for Lamont and that was a month ago. I'll bet as word of Lamont gets out with this convention, the numbers will be up for Lamont next time.

8. I was sitting in the coffee shop
at a western CT hospital yesterday (Mr MANative had hip replacement surgery - all's great) and overheard the conversation of one of the nurse managers who was telling her friend about all the calls her hubby was getting from Lieberman. Nurse's hubby is apparently a delegate at the upcoming convention. She said that Lieberman was "practically begging" for his support, and Delegate told him unequivocally that he would NOT be supporting him. Should be an interesting convention as Nurse reports that there are many who have decided to throw their support to Ned. Also saw a Lamont TV ad this morning - very clever and pointed.

9. Any way you look at it, this is good
If the least that Lamont's candidacy can do is wake Lieberman up to the fact that he ought to pay attention to his constituents, then that's something.

Not the best something, but something.

Good to see him getting to work here in CT.

11. notice Lieberman calls delegates but he hasn't contacted our DTC for
support. And he's losing it there. Members of our DTC are out petitioning for Lamont

12. Has Traitor Joe gone on his good buddy Sean Hannity's show recently?
Or has he appeared anywhere on his favorite network, Faux News?

I suspect not, because even Joementum can feel the fire warming his pasty ass ...
