Albuquerque, N.M. — A Canadian businessman charged with providing military training to foreign soldiers without a licence and stockpiling hundreds of missile warheads at his counterterrorism school in southern New Mexico was found not guilty Wednesday of all charges.
A jury acquitted David Hudak, 42, of nine federal felony charges that included accusations of training foreign soldiers without proper government approval and stockpiling 2,400 small warheads at his High Energy Access Tools company.
Mr. Hudak, of Vancouver, had faced a minimum 30-year mandatory sentence had he been found guilty.
During a six-week trial, he denied the charges and claimed he was the victim of a government setup. But prosecutors contended Mr. Hudak was driven by greed in a scheme he knew was illegal. He took a bad gamble that he wouldn't get caught, they said.
