Cheney: Nation won't forget Katrina's victims

BATON ROUGE (AP) — The victims of Hurricane Katrina remain in the thoughts of Americans and the $85 million in federal money that’s been sent to the Gulf Coast is only the beginning of the help that’s on the way, Vice President Dick Cheney said today.
“We will not forget the great suffering and difficulty” endured by those along the coast, Cheney told LSU graduates at the school’s commencement ceremony.

Cheney received several standing ovations from graduates and other spectators inside the school’s basketball arena. His 15-minute speech avoided politics and current events, aside from a brief reference to the war in Iraq and U.S. soldiers who are “winning the war on terror.”

Cheney urged graduates to consider careers of public service, saying he had expected to go into academia, not spend over 30 years in politics.

1. You're right Dick, the nation won't
You and Georgie most likely will the next time you take off on vacation, like you did when the catastrophe happened.

7. $85 million is peanuts.
That's probably just the signing bonus they gave haliburton as part of their no-bid sweetheart deal to profit from other people's misery.

If we ended the criminal war in Iraq, how much real money and how many national guards troops would be available to do some real help on the Gulf Coast?

trent lott is part of the big scruggs lawsuit against state farm insurance

they have forgotten even the rich and powerful victims, in the end, if you are from the south, i guess you are just toilet paper to be used by these thuggs

even trent lott himself has had to learn the hard way abt how much and how well they remember the victims

Cheney reaps Katrina tax benefits for non-Katrina donations

Vice President Dick Cheney appears to have benefitted from the Hurricane Katrina tax relief law for charitable donations unrelated to storm victims. So reports TaxProf Blog, citing information from Notre Dame law professor Michael Kirsh.

According to the VP's 2005 tax return, Cheney claimed $6.8 million in charitable deductions -- a whopping 77 percent of his annual gross income. That's well over the 50 percent limit that would have applied had it not been for the Katrina Emergency Tax Relief Act of 2005, which Congress passed unanimously and President Bush signed into law on Sept. 23, 2005 ...

3,200 that we don't even know if they're dead or alive! Don't forget the "possibly dead or just missing for a long time"!

24. I wasn't addressing the issues themselves, it's a given that Cheney.......
...couldn't care less about the Katrina victims. How could the hurricane victims ever make him money except through the companies hand picked to do the rebuilding?? There's much more money in military equipment so of course that's where Cheney's focus is.

Rather, I narrowed my comments to Cheney being able to fake compassion of any kind for anyone. Therefore, I still claim that to carry that off he must have had coaches work with him for days to get that speech right. Was there a catch in the voice, or possible a tear? Oops, his coaches may have missed something. :sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm:

I'll bet the house in St. Michaels was purchased with the Haliburton shares of stock that he was "donating" to charity.

40. Firms with Bush-Cheney ties clinching Katrina deals
Posted 9/10/2005 9:28 PM
Updated 9/11/2005 4:55 AM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) — Companies with ties to the Bush White House and the former head of FEMA are clinching some of the administration's first disaster relief and reconstruction contracts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

At least two major corporate clients of lobbyist Joe Allbaugh, President Bush's former campaign manager and a former head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, have already been tapped to start recovery work along the battered Gulf Coast.

One is Shaw Group Inc. and the other is Halliburton Co. subsidiary Kellogg Brown and Root. Vice President Dick Cheney is a former head of Halliburton.

Bechtel National Inc., a unit of San Francisco-based Bechtel Corp., has also been selected by FEMA to provide short-term housing for people displaced by the hurricane. Bush named Bechtel's CEO to his Export Council and put the former CEO of Bechtel Energy in charge of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation ...
