GOP Pins Hopes on Black Republicans
BOWIE, Md. (AP) - Hope springs eternal when black Republicans seek higher office, yet often the first question that hits them is what are they doing in the GOP. This election year, a man named Steele in Maryland and a former football star named Swann in Pennsylvania are among a small but determined number of black candidates trying to win one for the Republicans despite the Democratic Party's near lock on the black vote.

Republican Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, a former seminarian with a law degree from Georgetown University, is seeking the open Senate seat in November. He is looking to translate one accomplishment - the first black elected to statewide office in Maryland - into another, as the only black Republican in the Senate.

Lynn Swann, a Hall of Famer with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1970s, is running for governor in Pennsylvania.

Black Republicans also are seeking the governorship in Ohio, the Senate in Michigan and seats in Congress and state legislatures from the Midwest to the Deep South.

2. Republicans think that Black people are fools.
They think they can parade shit like anti-abortion and "morality" in front of us, and that we'll buy into it.

This coming from the same party that wants nothing more than to turn the clock back to before Civil Rights to the 1950s of Jim Crow.

This coming from the same party that removed Black people's names from voter rolls in Florida in 2000, and kept Black people waiting in line to vote for hours in Ohio, in 2004.

This coming from the same party that gave us that ignorant asshole for president, George W. Bush, who has been nothing more than a puppet and pawn for big money and corporate interests, sending hundreds of thousands of jobs overseas and drugs and decay into our communities.

We have names for people like J. Kenneth Blackwell, who kept Black people from voting for John Kerry in 2004, but now wants them to gleefully vote himself into Ohio's governors mansion. Ever hear of an "Uncle Tom" or better yet, a "House Ni----?" Betcha the GOP likes to pretend it never has.

These people are delusional. That they would even pull a stunt like this proves how little they have progressed in their line of thought over the past 50 years.

15. Reverend Moon & the Republican Party have been working very hard...

...to exploit homophobia in the Black community.

The argument goes that the unjustly persecuted moral Blacks should resent any comparison with the justly persecuted immoral gays.

This is Rovian Moonism at his best!

43. delusional? maybe
But I think it simply proves how much faith they have in their ability to control the media. Their days are almost numbered. We have youtube and google video and many other mass media outlets. If theres a story that needs to get out they cant stop it anymore. In 5 years the corporate media could be completely destroyed, unless of course they legislate their way out of this mess.

Seriously, the Democratic party can't/shouldn't take the African American vote for granted. But, jeeze. Lynn Swann? The number of people who vote for him because he's black will be far outweighed by the number of people who vote for him because they recognize the name, by the number of people who vote against him because he's black, by the number of people who vote for/against him because they don't recognize the name and think he's a woman, etc. Insignificant.

Bush has the LOWEST ratings of any group, among the blacks. What is it? around 2% approval rating? Something unbelievable like that.

And after what he did to the good folks down in New Orleans....

Think: snowball + Hell.

An African-American candidate is a different prospect. In a race in which no Democrat of color runs, it will be a powerful sign, if the Republican seems sufficiently removed from *'s agenda.

14. Many Black Churches Have Been Compromised by Sun Myung Moon's...

..."Unification Church." (Moon is an extremely clever businessman, and huge figure in global fundamentalism -- funding our Republican fundamentalists for decades).

Moon's "Unification Church" founded & still owns "The Washington Times." It now owns UPI.

When you order sushi or sashimi, chances are you're contributing to the "church," given that Moon bought out many of our coastal fishing operations (on the cheap) during the last recession.

The "church" now owns controling intrest in many nations.
________________________________________

Many Independent American Black churches (like their White predicessors) have seccumbed to the monitary/political influence of the "Unification Church."

Moon proclaims himself to be the new & improved Massiah, who will finish the job that Jesus wasn't able to. He convinced many Black church leaders to take the huge & seminal crosses off the walls behind the alters & throw them in church dumpsters.

Here's a small reminder of his efforts -- http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x915717

.
.
.

Runs the USA.

And that's they way they always wanted it.

We don't have to "impeach" to get rid of our leader

and our parliamentary system, while far from perfect,

gives the PEOPLE a better chance to control our government.

We can demote a leader within months on a simple non-confidence motion,

And can have referendums on major decisions at any time.

I sure hope y'all get a more humanistic leader in the future but I fear not.

Millionaires ain't too concerned about poor folks

I know

We've had our own millionaires in office, and suffered as a result.

I still have no idea how to fix that,

BUT

I'd still rather be up here than down there

39. Why are these Black Republicans
Edited on Mon May-22-06 01:29 AM by beltanefauve
singing the praises of Lincoln anyway?

The 'Great Emancipator' and the Issue of Race
Abraham Lincoln's Program of Black Resettlement
Robert Morgan
Many Americans think of Abraham Lincoln, above all, as the president who freed the slaves. Immortalized as the "Great Emancipator," he is widely regarded as a champion of black freedom who supported social equality of the races, and who fought the American Civil War (1861-1865) to free the slaves.

While it is true that Lincoln regarded slavery as an evil and harmful institution, it also true, as this paper will show, that he shared the conviction of most Americans of his time, and of many prominent statesmen before and after him, that blacks could not be assimilated into white society. He rejected the notion of social equality of the races, and held to the view that blacks should be resettled abroad. As President, he supported projects to remove blacks from the United States.
