Gore limits campaigning to climate change (no "intention" of running)

Gore limits campaigning to climate change

Al Gore is talking as if he has ruled out another run for the presidency.

"I don't intend to be a candidate ever again," the former Democratic presidential candidate said in an interview broadcast Wednesday.

However, Gore then invoked the time-honored language of politicians who know it's perhaps folly to categorically rule anything out.

"I have no plans to be a candidate, and no intention of being a candidate," Gore said in the interview broadcast on NBC's "Today" show. But he added: "I've said I'm not at the stage of my life where I'm going to say never in the rest of my life will I ever think about such a thing."

<SNIP>

"I was in politics for a long time and ran for national office four times," Gore said. "I'm 58 years old and that used to sound like the oldest age in the world to me." Now, he said, "I'm enjoying serving in other ways. I really enjoy my life now."

2. He wouldn't have to. He can raise truckloads of grassroots money in a
minute with just the right words. But he's very smart not to say those words now.

8. I don't think he would do that; here's why:
He knows that the common man is hurting economically. He knows we are tired of campaign contribution abuse. He also does not want to open himself up to ANY attacks based on where some of his campaign contributions may come from; whether he accepts them or not. We've all seen that it does not matter if the money is accepted. Merely the fact that it was offered from someone or some org. that is a bit out there or suspect can damage a candidate in the public arena. If he is smart; he will finance it almost completely himself; Ross Perot style. It is brilliant and I think it is possible he has had this in the back of his mind all along.

I bet it's a winning issue.

4. the summer of 2008 will determine if it's an issue in November '08.
if it's a beautifully mild year- it'll help the pukes.

if the effects of global warming are able to be seen/felt in uncomfortable/deadly ways- the Dems could have the winning issue.

it will be interesting to see how this summer's weather will/might effect the outcome of the mid-terms.

5. Smart to never say never, however, I think he should stick with
this issue and make a lasting name for himself this way. I like Gore and I supported and voted for him in 2000, but I am not enthusiastic about another run for him as President. he may have changed some of his conservative ideas, but all he has offered so far is criticism of Bush and Bush policies with no counter plans or ideas. Not much of a current resume to run on for President. I also question his excitement concerning another run. He shines on Global warming and can add much to that debate. he needs to stick with that IMO.

He was elected in 2000 after all.

7. Well, he may be happier in private life
but the world needs him. He may decide to run if he thinks it helps with his efforts to save the planet from environmental disaster. Run, Al, run!!!! We need you.
