Both promise unity to rebuild the city

Kathleen Blanco met Tuesday with New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin for the first time since he was re-elected Saturday, and both agreed that they need to repair their dysfunctional relationship and work together to rebuild the city.

Nagin said he and the governor "expressed frustrations" with one another, partly because of the critical "rhetoric" they had used about each another. "We both agreed it was time for that to go away," he said.

However, Blanco also admitted to some frustration at Nagin's habit of making inflammatory off-the-cuff comments."The mayor is always contrite when he speaks to me," Blanco said, but added that she found the conversation "a little difficult" after so many barbs had been exchanged.
