U.S. residents don't trust leaders (Zogby - 24% trust Bush)

U.S. residents don't trust leaders

UTICA, N.Y., May 25 (UPI) -- A Zogby Interactive poll finds that U.S. voters are more distrustful than ever of political and corporate leaders.

Only 3 percent believe Congress is trustworthy; 7 percent think business leaders are; 24 percent say President George W. Bush can be trusted; and 29 percent trust the courts.

...

Three out of four respondents said they trust politicians less than they did five years ago.

Seventy-five percent of those polled said their friends, neighbors and co-workers are trustworthy, and an overwhelming majority -- 97 percent -- described themselves as trustworthy.

1. Wow - that low?
I knew it was bad but I didn't realize it was that bad.

Course, if you are even breathing you would have to know that Congress is run by a bunch of corrupt politicians. It just is.

And we need to vote them all out. If our right to vote is even left in tact by the time this is over.

20. It's not bad -- it's good
good that the people, so barraged by propaganda, pressured by corporations, and isolated by the destruction of their communities, see through all the crap they're being fed.

The only "bad" here is that some people on the left continue to sell the people short, preferring to label them "sheeple" despite poll after poll that shows the vast majority see right through Bushivism.

The American people do, eventually, see through shams. If they didn't, if people really were sheep, then representative democracy is doomed to failure and the only sensible things to do are to give up altogether on politics, or become authoritarian. It's the job of those of us who recognize lies first to help our neighbors see the lies too, not to criticize our neighbors for taking a little longer to see.

26. I agree as well. The American people are not stupid. They didn't
elect Bush either time. The second time was a near landslide for Kerry, about 3% in Kerry's favor if the exit polls are any indication and I think they are.

The American people are just disenfranchised right now. They will still be disenfranchised in the next election and the one after that probably.

Depends on how long democracy is denied us as to how long our "leaders" continue to destroy the country's ideals and hopes.

Primary cause is electronic voting machines, but throw in systematic disenfranchisement thru ex-felon lists, ID requirements etc. etc.

2. why should we? They lie.
(With few exceptions) They lie continually. They lie with impunity. They simply lie. They have nothing but contempt for the intelligence, concerns, and needs of the people who pay them to serve. They lie demonstrably, again and again, and if caught in one lie, tell another. Lying comes as easily as breathing to them. I see them no differently than I did 5 years ago; the main difference is that this current lot is so shameless and so arrogant in their lying.

3. It's not just the lies - we kind of expect that.
It's also the secrecy along with the lies. And it all revolves around billions and billions of taxpayer money.

I don't think the feeling toward our own govt. has ever been this low in any time I can remember.

I know I feel like we basically have no govt. anymore. That we are just on our own to do the best we can. Pensions are gone, 401k's aren't enough to live on when you retire, we are paying for our own health care and that is so expensive that no one can afford it.

Things are a mess. And this govt. just bickers on.

4. why should we expect lies from them?
Edited on Fri May-26-06 07:54 AM by GreenArrow
What makes any of us countenance that? Would we stand for it if our children lied to us the way our politicians do? Our spouse/significant others? Our parents? Our bosses? Our friends? It's infuriating. How can even 24 percent trust Bush? Mind boggling!

<<"I know I feel like we basically have no govt. anymore>>"

I don't think we have a government anymore either; we have keepers.

17. I'm with you
24 percent for *? People think he's more honest than people in Congress? Because there are some people over others in Congress, I would trust more--why the higher rating for *, after he lied us in a war and has been caught in lies? Are some people being polled still going on faith?

I mean, come on...Both Rs and Ds are lying sacks of ****.

It's just that typcially, Ds lies only involve money and business deals whereas Rs lies cause death the fall of the wall of seperation.

11. Do The Math, 97% Believe Themselves Trustworthy, While Only 3% Think
Congress is trustworthy. So, the 3% who don't think they themselves are trustworthy might be the same 3% idiots who think congress IS trustworthy.

Who are these people?

That their penis makes them bad boys. And that Congress must be filled with angels, else why would God allow their election?

23. It could be just error.
Not everyone will answer the truth when asked a question or take a poll serious. The 3% are the spinners who mock the questions and the fact they are being asked.

I like that 3% admitted that they themselves weren't trustworthy. But why should we believe them?

On edit - Captain Kirk used to blow computers minds with contradictions like this.

16. 3%!!! Hear that Congress!?!?!
Dam, 24% for GWB. 2 more years? He will be in single digits if he attacks Iran! Which is coming sometimes this year (in bizarro world, starting a war raises approval ratings). Bizzaro Bush is the Decider(puppet)!

97% trustworthy? I don't think so but I suppose they weren't given other options - i.e. Mostly, Somewhat, etc.

19. Well, Duh...
People will act in their own best interests 95% of the time, with the other 5% of the time being occupied by thinking they're acting in their own best interests even when they aren't. With the Republican rank and file, these values are reversed.

So...

If the government is set up such that betrayal of the electorate, the Constitution, and the rule of law is such a damned personally lucrative affair...

I am not surprised at those numbers.

personal approval rating and that she checked on that herself. How could so many people not trust him? She didn't lie to me did she?? LoL
