13. More info from Boston.com:
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2006/05/26/capitol_police_probing_reports_of_gunfire/

Police sealed off the Capitol on Friday after receiving reports of gunfire in a House office building across the street.

Capitol police are investigating "the sound of gunfire in the garage level of the Rayburn House Office BHuilding," said an announcement on the internal Capitol voice alarm system.

The Senate was in session at the time, but the House was not.

Rep. Peter Hoekstra, R-Mich., conducting a House Intelligence Committee hearing, interrupted a witness to request those attending the meeting to remain in the room and said the doors must be closed.

"It's a little unsettling to get a Blackberry message put in front of you that says there's gunfire in the building," he said.

25. Local DC NBC is now downplaying this. Rep. E. H. Norton interviewed
and says they have had a sound system message that "there are reports of gunfire" and are asked not to leave the building. She regards it as a false alarm like the many they've had since 9-11 until she learns otherwise! :-)

AP Special Correspondent

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Police investigated reports of gunfire in a House office building on Friday and briefly sealed off the Capitol as a precaution.

Capitol police were investigating "the sound of gunfire in the garage level of the Rayburn House Office Building," said an announcement on the internal Capitol voice alarm system.

There was no confirmation of gunfire. The FBI and D.C. Fire Department said there have been no injuries reported.

Capitol police scheduled a noon EDT briefing.

The Senate was in session at the time, but the House was not as most lawmakers had left for the Memorial Day recess. Four ambulances were on standby outside Rayburn as police methodically searched the office building. Police lined the street between the Capitol and the Rayburn building, rifles prominently displayed....

71. This is so ridiculous.
The capitol police "got a call" (from whom? nobody knows) about "a shot or shots" or a "loud sound" from the parking garage.

Then the House committee members were told that there had been shots fired *in the building*!

Interesting: there's that word "unsettling" again. More evidence of repuke mind control:

"It's a little unsettling to get a Blackberry message put in front of you that says there's gunfire in the building," he said.

BTW, above is from Washington Post article and was spoken by a republican.

Here's an irony; even "pickle(s)" works its way in:

"We have been told by staff of shots fired and the smell of smoke in the lobby of the Rayburn House building," Mr Pickle said. "

Gunpowder found in Rayburn building, police tells aide

RAW STORY
Published: Friday May 26, 2006

A House Democratic aide now tells RAW STORY that a police officer said gunpowder has been found in the Rayburn office building.

A Democratic aide in the Capitol said the Capitol had been locked down again, though police have denied.

Fox News is reporting that women who ran out of the building told Capitol police they had seen a gunman in the "locker room" and the "gymnasium."

The aide also said that videocameras in the Rayburn garage often do not have tape in them and are not monitored.

Correction: A police officer did not say that the firing range does not use gunpowder. CNN's report did not include mention of video cameras.

Senate approves nomination of Hayden to be next CIA director
ASSOCIATED PRESS
May 26, 2006

12:12 p.m.
After hearing assurances he will be independent of the Pentagon, the Senate today easily confirmed Gen. Michael Hayden, a career Air Force man, to head the CIA.
Mr. Hayden, a four-star general, currently is the top deputy to National Intelligence Director John Negroponte.
Mr. Hayden, 61, would be the first active-duty or retired military officer to run the spy agency in 25 years. He was approved by a vote of 78-15.
President Bush, in a written statement, applauded Mr. Hayden's confirmation.
"Winning the war on terror requires that America have the best intelligence possible, and his strong leadership will ensure that we do," he said. "Gen. Hayden is a patriot and a dedicated public servant whose broad experience, dedication and expertise make him the right person to lead the CIA at this critical time."
At his confirmation hearing, Mr. Hayden sought to assure lawmakers he would be independent from his military superiors but said he would consider how his uniform affects his relationship with CIA personnel. If it were to get in the way, he said, "I'll make the right decision."
Mr. Hayden, who headed the National Security Agency for several years, became a lightning rod for the debate about the Bush administration's domestic eavesdropping program. Some Democrats and civil-liberties advocates argue the monitoring was illegal.
As head of the NSA from 1999 to 2005, Mr. Hayden oversaw the program. His defenders say he was relying on the advice of top government lawyers.
The White House hurried Mr. Hayden's nomination through in only 17 days, in part by heeding Congress' 5-month-old requests for more information on the classified operations.
During Thursday night's debate, Sen. Ron Wyden, Oregon Democrat, said the warrentless wiretapping program raised "serious questions about whether the general is the right person to lead the CIA, serious questions about whether the general will continue to be an administration cheerleader, serious questions about his credibility."
Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Pat Roberts, Kansas Republican, countered that Mr. Hayden "is eminently qualified" to lead the agency and that "he is the right choice to lead the CIA."

141. I find that hard to believe
Gunshots are pretty distinctive in real life. TV and movies don't capture the sound well because it is so sharp and loud it messes up the microphones. And you would thing that, with a shooting range in the building people would be more used to it.

Of course, ignorance knows no bounds...

Georgia Congressman's Staffer Hospitalized After Gunfire Reports

POSTED: 1:41 pm EDT May 26, 2006
UPDATED: 1:59 pm EDT May 26, 2006

WASHINGTON -- Guns drawn, police briefly sealed off the Capitol Friday and launched a floor-by-floor search of the largest office structure on Capitol Hill after an unidentified caller reported gunfire. Amid chaos and confusion, police said there were no arrests or confirmation of the gunfire.

A staffer for Rep. Jack Kingston (R Ga.) was taken from the Rayburn House Office Building on a stretcher. She was transported to a hospital by ambulance.

Police say she may have suffered from a "panic attack".

"The report is that shots were fired" at 10:30 a.m. EDT in the garage of the Rayburn House Office Building, said Capitol Police spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Schneider.

Right? I mean, Bush is convinced that future historians will be so enamored of him that they will put golden halos around his head in all of the school textbooks. Maybe that's how he plans on achieving a higher approval rating. "Deadeye Dick" could perform the task with impunity!

175. The message is fear. Get the police involved before thinking. Fear!!
The message is fear. We need to be "safe." We have to call the police for every little thing. Because we must be "safe."

Repeat the mantra, remember the mantra.

The message is fear.

178. Propaganda is on the March
I was watching the news and they also showed pictures of 911 and talked about all the suffering people who lost loved ones. I was actually thinking they might be questioning the events but I should have known better as it was just there to cause emotional reaction in citizens. It had no other purpose but emotional impact.

So I think we should get ready to be bushit on because something is coming down the pipe.
