Sources: Capitol "gunfire" likely from air hammer
Edited on Fri May-26-06 02:39 PM by Charlie Brown
You have GOT to be kidding me.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/05/26/house.shots/index.html

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Law-enforcement sources at the Capitol said Friday that suspected sounds of gunshots heard in a House office building were made by a mechanic using a pneumatic hammer on an elevator, security expert Mike Brooks reported.

"It looks like this is going to be the source of the noise that they heard," Brooks said Friday afternoon.

Police, who conducted a room-by-room search of the Rayburn building, where some members of the House have their offices, issued an "all-clear" about 3:15 p.m.

and company have won. Do you suppose he and Bush will be having a celebratory BBQ this week-end? In memory of the America that was. :-(

8. Notice which building it is again... perhaps the capitol police used that
"Sounds of gunfire" evacuation to perhaps gather into for the administration. My wife made the suggestion to me. She is seriously wondering if the Capitol police aren't using these evacs to the administration advatage.

9. Is DC paranoid, or what? Imagine what Iraq lives with every day.
Car bombs, suicide bombers, IED's, pipeline explosions, drive-by executions, you name it.

And DC goes crazy over a contractors tool.

God help us. We've become a nation of scared fools.

20. Exactly what I was thinking
Wouldn't you like to give *'s 29% a holiday week in Baghdad and see how long it takes them to crap their pants? If we've become this hysterical as a nation then we've already lost the "war on terror" because that label isn't about the actuality -- it's about the fear.

21. Not DC per se
But the law enforcement and security folks and the media. I'm a DC resident and figured that there was some simple explanation. DC itself is pretty used to false alarms and Chicken Littles: A while back there were reports of a possible chemical weapons incident in a government building. Streets were shut down, the building evacuated, the media on high alert. It turned out to be a high school student in the McDonald's on the ground floor of the building, who had been fucking around with his girlfriend's pepper spray.

10. My guess...was that it was a car backfiring...
I knew this was nothing.

Every one is so cranked up on fear...it's ridiculous.

I think the entire nation has PTSD from Junior's war- and fear-mongering.

15. It was a Republican who reported the gunfire
Wonder how he got his gunfire expertise?

http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/05/26/060526204527.mf8kf88w.html

A US lawmaker admitted to being the source of an erroneous report of gunfire in a Congress office building that led authorities to shut down a large part of the legislature's sprawling complex for several hours.

Republican Representative Jim Saxton, speaking to Fox television, said he was in the elevator at the garage level of the Rayburn House Office building, when he heard what he thought was gunfire.

"I heard what I thought to be between six and ten shots," the Republican lawmaker said.

"It sounded exactly like gunfire to me. It was not of a backfire nature. it was the sharp crack as comes out of a weapon."
