Car bombs, mortars leave 40 dead in Iraq

By BUSHRA JUHI, Associated Press Writer 18 minutes ago

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Car bombs and mortar attacks killed at least 40 people Tuesday across Iraq as the government struggled with deteriorating security, while a man who allegedly confessed to hundreds of beheadings has been captured, officials said.

On Monday, another 40 people were killed in various attacks, including two CBS journalists who died in a bombing that critically wounded a correspondent for the network.

Not including Tuesday's attacks, at least 4,066 Iraqis had been killed in war-related violence so far in 2006, according to Associated Press reports, which may not be complete because the reporting process does not cover the entire country. That figure includes 871 in May, surpassing the 801 killed in April.

Tuesday's deadliest bomb struck in a popular market during the evening in Husseiniyah, about 20 miles north of Baghdad, killing at least 25 people and wounding 65, said Lt. Colonel Falah al-Mohamedawi, an Interior Ministry spokesman.

3. So, this new cabinet, or government, or whatever it is this time
isn't the magic panacea to the problem? The 'insurgency' just didn't throw their bombs, bullets, PLASTIC EXPLOSIVES (remember the missing plastic??) away?

That's what we were told would happen, isn't it? Do you think that the bush** administration was lying to us? Would they do that?

:sarcasm:

7. On Monday, they found 65 executed bodies
Since they didn't know when they had been executed, they didn't count them. Clever, that.

10. Is McCain still suggesting we stay 10 + years & trying to compare the
Iraqi quagmire to the US occupation of Germany and Japan after WWII? John Wayne McCain is just the kind of warmonger we need as president after the "decider" so we can win this one just like we would have in Viet Nam if we had stayed another 10 Years. All the wheels have fallen off and it's full speed ahead, damn the torpedoes and the senseless killing, we're headed for glory land.
