No charges against police in teen's shooting
Excerpted from http://www.cleveland.com/newslogs/plaindealer/index.ssf?/mtlogs/cleve_plaindealer/archives/2006_06.html#148435

A special prosecutor has decided not to file charges against two police detectives who shot 15-year-old Brandon McCloud.

Retired Judge C. Ellen Connally reviewed the shooting by Detectives Phillip Habeeb and John Kraynik. She delivered her opinion today to Brandon's family.

The decision was one of four today involving police shootings.

Cleared were:

- Patrolman John Franko, who shot Laray Renshaw, 36, during a struggle Sept. 30.

- Patrolman Alvin Gulley, who shot David Crenshaw, 33, on Oct. 20. Police believed Crenshaw was stealing a car.

- Patrolmen Brian Carney and Reginald Beddard, who shot 18-year-old Angelo Ferguson. Police said Ferguson was trying to run down the officers in a stolen car.

Last evening the local news was reporting that Cleveland cops in riot-gear would be on standby today in case of backlash against the decisions.

Here is hoping the evening does not bring trouble.

2. Governments should fear their people, not the other way around.

5. I did not respond to your judgment as I detected none other than the hope

for a peaceful night. I hope for that also. However, I do rejoice when scum that infects the world I live in is removed from it. If that offends you, perhaps a forum where opinions are not expressed would be more to your liking. I don't visit FR, so I can't say how they comment. Quite frankly I don't visit any forum based boards that can't even get a simple posts/response thread tree format working.

6. You have your opinion...I have mine
I do not "rejoice" at death...anyone's death. Also, the shooting of Mr. Mcloud was not cut and dry...there were, and still are, questions regarding the circumstances. So forgive me if your "rejoicing" at his death rubs me the wrong way.

7. an old friend of mine has become hardened like this, nearing age 60 living
in an artist's loft in downtown Minneapolis. he's quite eccentric, wearing either an all-white or all-black suit every day depending on the season (we know when it's spring when he switches to white) and his hair pulled back with a white bandanna. he's never driven, always walks, and he's regularly threatened, jumped, robbed, and otherwise assaulted by the aggressive teens downtown. at this point he's completely sick of them. i can see how this type of feeling can come about... he feels helpless and is thrilled when anyone who might be a threat is taken down.

8. Is he able to move to another part of town?
Can he walk with friends? I feel for his situation but there may be alternatives. It is a sad state of affairs that he is in the process of losing his humanity.

9. he's a bit of a loner but he has a lot of friends as he's a pretty famous
local artist. i don't know what his future plans are... i know he's always short on cash and probably doesn't have any savings to make any kind of move. it wouldn't surprise me if part of his arrangement with his landlord is based on a trade for art... but i don't know for sure.

yes, he's losing his humanity to a certain degree. his work doesn't seem to be suffering too much, though.
