Hungary says US troops kill Hungarian man in Iraq



BUDAPEST, Nov. 21 — Hungary's Foreign Ministry said on Friday U.S. troops shot dead a Hungarian civilian in Iraq this week after he failed to slow his car as it approached a U.S. military checkpoint.

It said the man died west of Baghdad on Monday. Hungarian media said he was 27 years old and had been working for civilian contractors in Iraq.

''U.S. sources informed the ministry that the car driven by Peter Varga-Balazs approached a checkpoint at high speed... he failed to slow down despite calls to stop and warning shots,'' the ministry said in a statement.

''Therefore, U.S. troops fired aimed shots at him, causing his death.'' (snip/...)

This isn't President Bush over there, these are scared kids. For the most part, they don't want to be there. They're being attacked forty times every day, and they're scared shitless. If I were in their shoes, I'd probably be shooting more often than I should too.

Obviously this incident is a tragedy, but this doesn't reflect a policy decision or anything other than the just the miserable state of security in Iraq.

Blame Bush for putting these guys there, but don't blame them for being driven mad by a mad world.
