'Striking a completely different note, Kelly Smith, a Texan who lives in Sedgefield, draped herself in the US flag and made a lone stand in support of her president.

Harangued by other protesters, Ms Smith said she was a "patriotic, conservative" American who had supported Mr Bush as an overseas voter in the last presidential election.'

Good advert for ending overseas voting, eh!

I just can't see Air Force One at Teeside Airport.

Pub lunch ending Bush's UK visit

President Bush is ending his trip to the UK with a pub lunch in Tony Blair's constituency of Sedgefield.

Mr Bush and wife Laura had a meal of leek and potato soup followed by fish and chips with mushy peas at the town's Dun Cow Inn.

The president flew to north east England on Friday after a farewell from the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

Police said about 500 people were protesting against Mr Bush's visit on the village green in the town centre.

A £1m security operation has been mounted around the Sedgefield constituency, with hundreds of police on duty. (snip/...)
