Sancho says he will fight rule changes
Leon County Elections Supervisor Ion Sancho doesn't mind letting the state know when he's testing voting machines, but he doesn't think the Secretary of State's office should tell him how - or whether - he can do it.

Sancho said he will attend a public hearing in the R.A. Gray Building at 1:30 p.m. Monday to discuss a pending rule change. He said the new rule would require a representative of the Department of State to be present whenever a county runs a test on voting machines.

"I don't, for the life of me, understand why they want to do something like this," Sancho said Saturday. "I have no problem with notifying them, but I don't think I need their approval."

2. Good man. Now if we could only get our dems in the house and the
senate to act this way.

Sancho said the hearing Monday is only the first step in the rule-making process, but he intends to fight it all the way.

4. Wished I could be at that meeting
Who is near enough to Tallahassee that they can be there?

Public support for Ion would scare the rule makers.

Are any election protection groups set to be present?
I will donate to the first one who makes the meeting and gives a report.

5. There is NOTHING more important than the courage and honesty of Ion...
Sancho and other election officials, and the grass roots movement that supports them in seeking a return to transparent, verifiable elections. As a result of Tom Delay's and Bob Ney's disastrous "Help America Vote Act," election officials around the country have been bribed with lavish lobbying and enticed with power and secrecy, and thoroughly corrupted, or have been bullied, swiftboated, and conspired against by Bushite corporate racketeers, in order to force the states and counties to purchase expensive, insecure, and extremely hackable election theft machinery manufactured and controlled by Bushite corporations. Anyone standing up to them is comparable to the courageous man or woman who stands up to Organized Crime, or to any kind of fearsome coercion. Ion Sancho is a remarkably courageous man. He could have led a comfortable life by going along and getting along. He instead chose the ethical path--and one fraught with personal danger. He deserves more than our support; he deserves a Congressional Medal of Honor and a Nobel Prize. (Do they give Nobel Prizes for saving democracies?). George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Tom Paine and Paul Revere all rolled up into one.

Another critical battlefront for transparent elections is DEBRA BOWEN's campaign in Calif for Sec of State, against Diebold shill/Schwarzenegger appointee Bruce McPherson. (See www.debrabowen.com.) This is where we lose or win back our democracy--on the ground, in state/local struggles over transparent elections. We have a window of opportunity at the state/local level before the boot comes down. This is IT. If we lose the battle for transparent elections, we lose all.

Most Democratic leaders have been elsewhere in this battle--no doubt largely because they, too, are now beholden to Bushite electronic voting corporations and their 'TRADE SECRET,' PROPRIETARY programming code. All the more amazing to see a Democratic leader stand up to them--as Debra Bowen is doing. In the case of Calif, we saw the election theft industry, with many Democratic leaders in collusion (or hiding under their desks), destroy the career of our honest Sec of State, Kevin Shelley, who had sued Diebold, and de-certified the worst of their election theft machines prior to the 2004 election. McPherson, appointed by Schwarz, illegally re-certified them. The gauntlet was thrown. Bowen has now picked it up and flung it back in their faces. What a hero! I did not expect anyone like her--a good government Democrat--to pick it up. Turns out she's more than a good government Democrat--she's a ferocious defender of OPEN government, and, not incidentally, an expert on electronics in government.

So we now have champions of open, transparent, verifiable elections in two big states--one that the Bushites control (Florida) and one that they want but do noy yet fully control (Calif). Here's something that DUers can do, to turn the tide back toward democracy--if you all want to do more than complain, descry and be appalled at Bush junta crime. SUPPORT CHAMPIONS OF ELECTION REFORM--with public education, public pressure, campaign contributions, posts to email lists, letters to the ed and to public officials, and by whatever means you can, as I am doing here. Keep this issue and its heroes front and center.

There is NOTHING more important. We MUST restore transparent elections and our right to vote. Without them, we have no power to change anything else.

7. Is he the "Elections Supervisor", or not?
Seems to me that he's just doing his job as an Elections Supervisor.

His title is fairly explanatory. Let him do his job.
