MADRID, Spain (AP) - Spain's National Court will investigate allegations that the CIA used an airport on the Mediterranean island of Mallorca for its program of covert transfers of terror suspects, court officials said Monday.
A report issued last week by a Swiss lawmaker investigating on behalf of the Council of Europe named Spain as one of 14 European countries that allegedly colluded with the U.S. intelligence agency to transport terrorist suspects on secret flights.
Some of the detainees were allegedly held in secret prisons in Europe, said the report, which offered no evidence to support the claims.
Spain denies that the government knew of any illegal activity by the CIA to transport terrorist suspects on secret flights via Spanish territory.
