Skilling Seeks Access to Frozen Assets
Associated Press

HOUSTON - Lawyers for Jeffrey Skilling have asked the government to release $60 million
in assets under its control, citing the former Enron Corp. CEO's acquittal on insider
trading charges connected to the funds.

Defense attorney Daniel Petrocelli filed a motion with U.S. District Court Judge Sim Lake
on Monday requesting the assets be released to Skilling.

"Jeff wants to pay his obligations. He has obligations to his children, his family and
of course he owes substantial sums of money to his lawyers," Petrocelli told the Houston
Chronicle for a story in Wednesday editions.
<snip>
A jury convicted Skilling of 19 counts of fraud, conspiracy, insider trading and lying
to auditors. Jurors found Skilling guilty of only one of 10 counts he faced for insider
trading. Petrocelli said the profit from that one sale could be forfeited, but very
little should be.

2. A good CEO???
Skilling received all this compensation based on the Board of Director's evaluation that he was a great indispensable CEO. Sorry, but a great indispensable CEO doesn't drive the company he/she leads into bankruptcy. Why should this failed CEO get out of this thing with a ton of money while the hardworking workers/pensioners have their financial lives ruined? (rhetorical question)

4. Jeff Skilling should swing from a rope with his balls in his mouth
Seriously, these Enron criminals are every bit as dangerous as the worst Al Qaeda terrorist. They should be disposed of, not playing tennis in the Club Fed at taxpayer expense with free health care, cable TV and 3 full meals a day.

They deserve the death penalty.

5. Well since I oppose the death penalty, I wouldn't go that far, but
I wouldn't mind seeing Lay and Skilling going to the Fed Super Max in Colorado or even John Gotti's final home, Marion in downstate Illinois.

8. Can't the victims file a civil suit against Skilling? Maybe this
is already in the works but it seems the logical thing to do so at least Skilling won't be able to access that cash.
