GOP Measure Forces House Debate on War
Nearly four years after it authorized the use of force in Iraq, the House today will embark on its first extended debate on the war, with Republican leaders daring Democrats to vote against a nonbinding resolution to hold firm on Iraq and the war on terrorism.
.....
Already, the resolution itself -- declaring that the United States will complete the mission to create a sovereign, free, secure and united Iraq and will prevail in the global war on terror -- has attracted strong criticism from lawmakers in both parties. Democrats and antiwar Republicans object to the linkage between the war in Iraq and the fight against terrorism, while some Republicans have said it sets unrealistic goals. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-Mich.), who supports the war, called the resolution "strategically nebulous and morally obtuse."

But the strongest misgivings may be practical. Rep. Ray LaHood (R-Ill.) called the entire exercise "a dumb idea" that will highlight precisely the issue that is threatening Republican political fortunes.

"When the country is war-weary, when the violence is still playing out on TV, I don't know why we want to highlight all that," he said.

3. Murtha should get to control the opposition time.
He did a great job during the debate on the "Murtha" (Hunter) resolution.

6. I think Dems will vote againist the resolution
Cause most dems like Shiela Jackson Lee for example think of this bill as nothing but a joke bill like the Hunter resolution.

This bill dosen't come with a plan

7. will dems use the proper language = fraud, deceit, dishonesty, lies
and so forth or will they just protest mildly in polite tones?

8. Oh yeah.. let the GOP leaders push this. Even one of their own can see...
"When the country is war-weary, when the violence is still playing out on TV, I don't know why we want to highlight all that."

This lacks ANY substance. OMO most Americans (except the "backwash") have caught on to what's going on and will see it for the BS "election year" stunt that it is we just need to make sure they hear the truth about it.... loud and clear.

9. Democrats should just walk out en mass during this vote
Just say something like "Tell us when you're done playing silly political games and you're ready to debate like grownups. We'll be happy to join you. Until then, Bye Bye."

11. Oh god. The Dems have let the GOP start the election on THEIR terms again.
Edited on Thu Jun-15-06 10:36 AM by Kablooie
Once again the Repubs will attack the Dems and Dems think that by defending themselves they will get votes.

WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO GET IT?!!
The Attacker is the strong side and will win!
The Defender is the weak side and will lose!

They have a mountain of true horrors about the Repubs and just sit on them.

The Repubs have nothing on the Dems and start the attack!!

NOPE. THE DEMOCRATS HAVE SCREWED US OVER AGAIN. THEY'VE LOST THE ELECTION ALREADY WITHOUT EVEN TRYING!!!

We will lose America because these ninnys have no more drive than a slug.

I think we can blame the loss of our Democracy on the Democrats who sit knitting while Rome burns!!

DAMN.
