Bullets 'flooding Baghdad market'
A lack of international control over the global bullets trade is partly to blame for the spiralling bloodshed in Iraq, a report has found.

Research carried out by the UK-based charity Oxfam says Baghdad's black market is awash with new ammunition.

Much of it originated from factories in Eastern Europe and Russia, according to the report....

You'd think we'd figure out a way to corner the black market in munitions there, no?

2. Bullets are flooding lots of Baghdad markets
So are explosions - flooding them with blood due to the actions of an AWOL chimp.

4. Are they suggesting something that even hints of gun control?
We can't have that. That gunfire you hear is the sound of Iraqi freedom!

Seriously, the report hints at a more immediate problem than a possible
international black market, the huge local stockpile of ammo supplied
to the provably corrupt Iraqi government and security forces.
The lack of good information from international monitoring merely
compunds a more basic problem.

BushCo staunchly opposes small arms control. They don't mind
the arms trade as long as the gunmen don't shoot at Americans.

5. Gee, maybe our soldiers can buy some
considering that small arms ammo is getting hard to come by.

6. We can't corner the market with our wussie 5.56 ammo...
they want those manley 7.62 X 39 rounds for their Kalashnikov rifles, the firearm of choice in Iraq.

8. Those ass kicker rounds are available, but not found in the bargain bins
Russia never openly offered this ammunition for export, and it is very rare outside of the country. Methinks the merchants keep those death kiss rounds behind the counter with all the good stuff and you have to ask for them specifically.

The savvy buyer can identify the ammunition in the Baghdad bazaars by its packaging which has the Russian words "SNIPER" stamped on its crates, cans, and paper wrap to prevent it from being wasted in other weapon applications.

11. On the bright side
most of this ammo is corrosive. Good in a pinch or long term storage. Don't break the seal, then you can keep it for a hundred years. I got a couple of 480 round battle packs on the shelf.:)

9. 7.62 X 39 in Mil-surp is impossible to fine here
at the price it was 6 months ago. Only thing available for a decent price is Wolf and Silver Bear. True mil-surp has dried up.

12. supply follows demand
and sometimes supply can create its own demand (as in retaliation against the person who shot at you yesterday).
