U.S. commander in Iraq says insurgency homegrown
http://famulus.msnbc.com/FamulusIntl/reuters11-21-121558.asp?reg=MIDEAST

KIRKUK, Iraq, Nov. 21 — The commander of U.S. forces in Iraq's northern province of Kirkuk said on Friday he had no evidence foreign Muslim militants were fighting alongside former Baathists he blamed for anti-U.S. attacks.
''I'm very uncomfortable about saying Islamists are involved,'' Colonel William Mayville told Reuters at a sprawling air base on the edge of Kirkuk.
<snip>
''But it's far more local than people realise. It's not this big global thing where once you find the golden thread it will all unravel,'' Mayville said. ''You have angry locals, farmers who didn't get their crops subsidised, unemployed people.''
He said Iraq was awash with arms and ammunition, while most Iraqis had some military training from army service. ''It's complicated, but there is no sophisticated organisation.''
U.S. officials have said hundreds of foreign militants have infiltrated into Iraq to fight American troops.
<snip>
That does not agree with the repug spin that the Iraqi people are soooo happy with our being there that all "insurgents" are from somewhere else. Tsk tsk, George. Have you been fibbing again?

Uncurious George did not know of the first, let alone the
second

By the way this Colonel is being honest, what he is seeing on
the ground jibes well with Iraqi history and traditions

3. I agree with you
The guys on the ground are being honest, it's just the Pentagon and the White House, etc. that will spin this once again into outside sources.

4. The thing that always facinates me about these situations is
that people in this country, rightwing nuts, NRA, Macho nuts, you name it ,who think of themselves as "Patriots" and are rigidly nationalistic and who vow to defend this country with their very lives should someone invade it cannot see that people in any other country might want to fight when their country is invaded illegally and without apparent cause.

6. Hmm
Let's hope Bush doesn't follow Churchill's advice for dealing with Iraqi uprisings.

7. Considering the Iraqi death tolls which are not reported (yet)
in the US press, I'm hoping he doesn't as well. Chances are, even Bushco realizes the razor's edge they are walking on in this respect.
