Menendez holds edge in new poll

TRENTON, N.J. - Continued frustration with President Bush and the war in Iraq have helped the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate keep an edge over his Republican challenger, according to a new poll released Thursday.

Voters polled by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute gave Sen. Robert Menendez a 7-point lead over his Republican challenger, state Sen. Tom Kean Jr.

According to the poll, the Democrat holds a 43-36 edge, with 17 percent undecided. A similar survey taken in April had Menendez ahead by 6 points.

"At this point, Menendez's charge that Kean is a Bush Republican who would vote the administration line seems to be having some sway among independent voters," said Clay Richards, assistant director of the poll.

This one has been running close. A 5/16/06 Rasmussen poll showed Kean ahead 40% to 37%, and a 5/18/06 Strategic Vision poll showed this race as a tie.

Hooray for Menendez and New Jersey Democrats!

Edit: Update Rasmussen poll information

2. Great selling point for Dems this year.
"At this point, Menendez's charge that Kean is a Bush Republican who would vote the administration line seems to be having some sway among independent voters"

IMO, average voters don't pay attention to campaign promises as much as they listen to sound bites. And this is a good one. "____ is a Bush Republican who would voted the administration line."

4. Good point, jedicord
And how about this one: If you send _______________ to the Senate, (s)he will help George W Bush gut Social Security in the next 2 years. Give Democrats control of Congress and we will protect this program.
