Senate rejects U.S. troop pullout in Iraq
Senate rejected a call for the withdrawal of U.S. combat forces from Iraq by year's end on Thursday as Congress erupted in impassioned, election-year debate over a conflict that now has claimed the lives of 2,500 American troops.

The vote was 93-6 to shelve the proposal, which would have allowed "only forces that are critical to completing the mission of standing up Iraqi security forces" to remain in 2007.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., said if the United States withdrew, "I am absolutely convinced the terrorists would see this as vindication." He predicted terrorism would spread around the world, and eventually reach the United States.

1. How come the terrorists struck us after 9/11 and nobody cared?
Where's the hue and cry over the anthrax attacks?

Don't they count?

And we weren't even fighting them "over there" yet.

6. Pay attention Frist, We have helped spread terror
around the world by showing we can't control Iraq.

The Iraqis seem to have figured out we plan to be there forever with permanent bases and one hell of a Huge Embassy. Why would the Iraqis want to help us take over their country?

8. A wholly useless exercise and waste of another legislative day
But fortunately, there are no pressing needs in the country like, oh, making sure shipping containers are inspected as they come into American ports or that security at chemical plants is beefed up. After all, nothing bad could possibly happen in either of those places, right?

The Senate really likes all meanings of the word "oversight."

16. Useless is in the eye of the beholder
This is the establishment gutting our country. The effing federal government is a corrupt group of gangsters. They steal OUR money to fight their illegal wars with OUR sons and daughters as the cannon fodder. You give them power by saying YES to the affect you respect who they claim to be or just by not saying your giving tacit approval.

I have no respect for an inch of them and when it comes I will be on the front lines

13. This amendment was introduced by Mitch
McConnell. It was similar to Kerry's and he introduced it to embarass Kerry. So they all voted against it. Kerry will bring up his amendment later this afternoon. The stupid news media shouldn't have even reported on this stupidity.

15. America writes the history she wants the future to quote
that the invasion of Iraq was justified.

Naturally, come tomorrow...some politician who voted to shelve the proposal will pontificate on how important the truth is to America's national character

America is incapable of admitting she's wrong...until enough years go by that is...until those alive now are dead...until the guilty can no longer be held accountable...when it's safe to admit she's wrong...when she can't be touched for being wrong...then America will say "Sorry"...
Long after the fact...long after it means anything...when it's too late to bring justice...after the damage is done and the guilty are either too old or too long in the grave...then Congress will pat itself on the back and proclaim a day of regret for past mistakes...for things they can no longer change or prevent...

but not now.... not when it matters. It's. just. not. safe.

and cowards like being safe

20. Terrorism IS spreading around the world...
...thanks to our illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq. To continue to occupy bolsters, not weakens terrorism.

Indeed, Frist-boy, invading a sovereign country to forcibly enact regime change is a terrorist act in and of itself. Look in the mirror, Cat-killer. YOU are the terrorist. :grr:

22. Kerry and the other Dem's promised a real and honest debate on
the issue of withdraw next week. The crap that went on today was a cheap trick coordinated by Frist and Connell. This must have been a Rove trick. These two aren't too bright, and wouldn't be able to pull off something so dispicable as this without the guidance of a political pig like Rove.

$94 billion more for Bush's war.
The spread of terrorism brought on by this occupation based on lies.
2500 US dead, countless Iraqi children, women and men dead and wounded
Debt and more debt.
And no end in sight.

To borrow from Nancy Pelosi who borrowed from Newt Gingrich:

"Had enough?"

25. This may sound stupid...
but even if it was a bill introduced that was meant to fail, what language kept those senators who actually want us to get out of Iraq from voting for it anyway?

In other words, what does it matter who introduces it if the affect of voting for it would be the same outcome, our overdue withdrawl? I understand the political, not idealogical, reasons for the 6 (08's getting closer and no one wants another "i voted for it before i voted against it" debacle), but are dem senators that petty that it must be their version or no version? Home is home, no matter if it was meant as a joke bill or not.

26. Kerry called the vote "fictitious"
Democratic leader Harry Reid of Nevada shot back: "Two things that don't exist in Iraq and have not, weapons of mass destruction, and cutting and running."

He accused Republicans of political gamesmanship and sought to curtail floor debate on the proposal. The vote occurred quickly.

Kerry called the vote "fictitious" and promised further debate next week on the issue. He and five other Democrats were in the minority on the vote — Russ Feingold of Wisconsin, Barbara Boxer of California, Robert Byrd of West Virginia, Tom Harkin of Iowa and Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts.

Let's applaud Kerry, Feingold, Boxer, Byrd, and Kennedy for daring to tell the truth about Iraq!
