Britain's Times launches tabloid

LONDON -- The Times, the 218-year-old British newspaper, announced Friday it is launching a tabloid edition.

The "compact edition," aimed at commuters on crowded trains and buses, will be available only in London, starting Wednesday. The traditional broadsheet format will continue to be printed.

The newspaper's editor, Robert Thomson, said the new edition "will be the same size as a tabloid, but it will be very, very different to the average tabloid, as it will bring the values and the content of the broadsheet to its new shape."

3. Hmm

I actually like The Times... the opinion pieces are garbage but the reporting is pretty good.

I used to take the Observer and the Sunday Times.

I don't know why, but Rupert seems to leave the Times to itself... he has a real hand in The Sun though (he's admitted so).
