Iraq war tied to no attacks in the United States: Cheney
WASHINGTON (AFP) - US Vice President Dick Cheney said that the war in Iraq was "in part responsible" for the absence of terrorist attacks in the United States since the September 11, 2001 strikes.

In a radio interview, a transcript of which was released by the White House, Cheney also said that US soldiers involved in alleged atrocities in Iraq should be presumed innocent until proven guilty, and predicted that US President George W. Bush's Republican party would win November congressional elections.

But three years after the invasion to topple Saddam Hussein, the vice president still took pains to justify the war to a skeptical US public, saying that Saddam's ouster was a blow to international terrorism.

"Iraq was a safe haven for terrorists, it had a guy running it who had started two wars, who had produced and used weapons of mass destruction. Taking down Saddam Hussein was exactly the right thing to do," he said.

to kill Americans.

It'd be a lot harder for them to kill Americans if all the Americans were here instead of there.

http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Blum/US_Interventions_WBlumZ.html

The engine of American foreign policy has been fueled not by a devotion to any kind of morality, but rather by the necessity to serve other imperatives, which can be summarized as follows:
* making the world safe for American corporations;
* enhancing the financial statements of defense contractors at home who have contributed generously to members of congress;
* preventing the rise of any society that might serve as a successful example of an alternative to the capitalist model;
* extending political and economic hegemony over as wide an area as possible, as befits a "great power."
This in the name of fighting a supposed moral crusade against what cold warriors convinced themselves, and the American people, was the existence of an evil International Communist Conspiracy, which in fact never existed, evil or not.
The United States carried out extremely serious interventions into more than 70 nations in this period.

Edited on Thu Jun-15-06 07:49 PM by wordpix2
because if you keep putting it out there, some terrorists are gonna do just what you're taunting them to do. Tone down the rhetoric, Dickhead.

Note that Dick is taking over the justification of the war for Chimpy who just can't seem to explain it well to the people. Maybe Chimp is feeling the pinch of public scrutiny and asked Darth to take over?

snip: "Iraq was a safe haven for terrorists, it had a guy running it who had started two wars, who had produced and used weapons of mass destruction. Taking down Saddam Hussein was exactly the right thing to do," he said."

LOL, "It had a guy running it" sounds like Dickhead is referring to BushCo, Inc. and their Persian Gulf I and II wars, not just Saddam as Darth would have it.

22. what really gets me about this is:
does this seem normal? iraq is gutted head to toe, instead of focusing solely on al queda and afghanistan, is anything in iraq a success right now?

Cheney may have iraq to refer to as for peace in our country right now, but has anyone ever thought:

Saddam wasn't threatening us
What has happened to their country will affect the people for many many years
if there was one osama before, there are now 100

--

with that being said, in short, this silence that cheney praises is simply ominous. the calm before the storm if you will. if they had totally disemminated terrorism, dontcha think one crazy jihadi woulda blown himself up in a shopping mall? fired a gun at a group of people?

with almost 5 years after 9/11 , this is the type of silence YOU DONT WAN'T. (IMO....!!)

The only thing iraq has proven is that our bombs hit targets, way to go military.

If anything i've learned al queda are patient, hence this uncomfortable silence. If anything the whitehouse should be wondering ATM "why so quiet" as to "well, we've killed 300,000 iraqi's, look at how peaceful the world is now!"

i can go on but won't, the wine is kicking in but this silence is the type nobody wants, whatsoever.

29. This particular lie sticks out......
"...it had a guy running it who had started two wars, who had produced and used weapons of mass destruction."

Let's see....Iraq/Iran war. I have heard it said and believe it that Saddam attacked Iran at our urging....the Ayatollah Khomeini was in power and we wanted to use Saddam to take him out.

Iraq/Kuwait war. Saddam invaded after there were reports of Kuwaitis using slant drilling to tap Iraqi oil and also after he received assurances that the US had no interest in so-called "border disputes".

WMD Yes, he used them...we supplied alot of what he used.

So while Cheney's basic facts are basically correct he conveniently leaves out other facts which are very important.

Lying bastard...just let the rest of the cabal.
