U.S. military opens probe of three deaths in custody
U.S. military opens probe of three deaths in custody
Fri Jun 16, 2006 4:04am ET

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The U.S. military said on Friday it had started an investigation
into the deaths last month of three men in the custody of U.S.-led forces in Iraq.

Lieutenant General Peter Chiarelli, the number two U.S. commander in Iraq, ordered the
investigation of the deaths which occurred on or around May 9 in Salahaddin province.

"The request for an investigation is the result of soldiers' reported suspicions
about the deaths," said the statement.

The investigation is taking place amid another probe of allegations that U.S. Marines
killed up to 24 unarmed civilians in the town of Haditha last year.

representations, and illegal invasions.

I know, let's see if we can figure out what happened here, yeah, that's it, let's investigate it to hell and back. But let's not investigate the use of incendiaries in Basra, White phosphorous in Fallujah, cluster bombs, microwave weapons, intentional collateral damage and sniping just for sniping's sake and don't tell me it didn't happen cuz I know for a fact that it does/did.

3. New inquiry after men died in U.S. custody
Some soldiers 'reported suspicions' about how the three died

The U.S. military said on Friday it had started a criminal investigation into the deaths last month of three men in the custody of U.S.-led forces in Iraq.

Several U.S. soldiers were apparently involved in the deaths, which were witnessed by other soldiers who reported the incident, military sources at the Pentagon told NBC's Jim Miklaszewski.

“The request for an investigation is the result of soldiers’ reported suspicions about the deaths,” said the statement.

The investigation is taking place amid another probe of allegations that U.S. Marines killed up to 25 unarmed civilians in the town of Haditha last year.

4. Military Investigates U.S. Killings of Iraqis at Checkpoint
WASHINGTON — The U.S. military is investigating the killing of three Iraqi civilians by American forces in northern Iraq, Pentagon officials said Thursday.

The inquiry into the May 9 deaths in Salahuddin province was requested by Army Lt. Gen. Peter Chiarelli, the U.S. commander in charge of day-to-day operations in Iraq, officials in Baghdad announced today.

....The military is investigating whether they were threatening American troops or whether the troops acted improperly and had no cause to use force against the civilians, an official said.

Chiarelli requested that the Army's Criminal Investigation Command undertake the inquiry as a result of soldiers' reported suspicions about the deaths. At the time of the deaths, the Iraqis were in the custody of U.S.-led forces, according to the statement released in Baghdad.

6. Soldiers reported suspicions, so it might be.
There's really nothing for it but to bank on the decency of what I imagine is the majority of Americans in country.

Chiarelli is the guy who got there after Haditha and opened an investigation as soon as he found out that none had been done.
