75-Year-Old Army Doctor to Serve in Afghanistan
EDGEWOOD, MARYLAND (AP) -- Dr. William Bernhard was distraught when a knee injury kept him out of the Marines as a young man. But he still found a way to spend his life in the military by becoming a surgeon in the Army Reserve and National Guard. On Saturday, the 75-year-old Bernhard deploys to Afghanistan for four months. And he hopes it's not his final mission.

2. In 1959, in Chaumont AB, France, I served with a master Sergeant
who joined the US Army in 1914! He had a 5 digit serial number. An 8 digit number was normal. In those days, they didn't use the SSN as military identification.

I'm well into my fifties. They are desperate.

It came the same day as a VA letter advising me my personal data had been stolen.
